Sorry to hear about your setback... but there’s plenty of time to September... if you’re comfortably doing 5 miles now you’re ahead of the game, some beginners plans start a lot lower than 5 and will have runners ready to complete the event, so maybe look at one of those and start following it from the point that you’re at, getting you to distance with plenty of time to spare and consolidate at 13.

This one would probably mean you could start 7 weeks in google.com/imgres?imgurl=ht...

any way you could sign up for an event of an intermediate distance before that? It gives you a shorter, relatively easy (in comparison) distance to aim for?

or maybe join a club or get a running buddy?

it'll come back if you stick at it

Plenty of time. You'll be fine.

Parkrun? A buddy? 🤔

Just try n enjoy it with no pressure for a bit. Good luck 🤞

I would suggest doing Parkrun every week as it’s fun, but I suppose it may we’ll be cancelled for awhile the way things are going. You could seek out some new routes in pleasant environments - Parks, Lakes, general loveliness that you would enjoy, and maybe slow down and take in the views 😁

Put your trainers on & enjoy your 5miles again just because you can 😆then slowly build up after that sticking to a good plan, a motivating route & great music. You will soon catch up again...

I am also an asthmatic and had a bad attack just over a year ago. Are you up to date with asthma checks etc? Is it due to the asthma that you are struggling? Are you finding the runs hard breathing- wise? I find that I cant push myself too much or I get panicky about not breathing, so I don't, but I do the occasional interval session as its manageable and I find them fun.
