So my last run of 2020 was not quite a PB but was my second fastest time on my FitBit watch. The Nike Running Club time was a minute faster at 37:52 - it’s a shame that there’s such a big discrepancy as I’d rather take the faster time but I don’t want to cheat myself. The first 1K split time of 7.13 is my fastest 1K to date while running outside. I’m going to be running on the flat on New Year’s Day bright and early with other much faster runners so I expect to run faster then, providing having other runners around doesn’t distract me.
My progress this year since I started running the C25K has been slow and steady. I still don’t find 5K easy to do and on Monday I ran with a much faster friend who developed a stitch and kept walking and running and it distracted me to such a degree that I stopped running at 3K. That’s the first run I’ve bailed out on for a while.
So what have I discovered about myself? I think in the main I prefer running alone, though I do tend to run faster when running with a friend. I like to run early in the morning and in colder weather. I’m hoping this changes in 2021 but I know I don’t like running where there are people to distract me.
Anyway, 2020 has been the very toughest of years but is ending on a more optimistic note despite this new strain of the virus ravaging us all. The vaccine is here and we should all be in a much better situation by the summer and without doubt this running journey has been a blessing to my mental and physical health and one which I intend on progressing further. 10K here I come.
As happy a New Year as possible to everybody on here and beyond. Stay safe and well and keep running to health.
