I've been trying to get a sub-30 minute 5Km since graduating, and today at my 40th Keswick Parkrun I managed 30.5 minutes for 5.2Km course, which is 29.33 minutes for the 5Km. Age grade 56.5%.
I keep telling them the finish funnel needs to move, but there isn't anywhere for it to go. I think I tell them to move the start next week. Trouble is, being a circuit, the length depends on the radius...
One of my old altar-boys (now all grown up) won.
Double Whammy!!

Congratulations to you TOF on getting a sub 30 minute 5k at this mornings Keswick Parkrun, well done, I know that you have been wanting that since you began last year, 40 is indeed your lucky number. π π π
Well done theoldfellow, another box ticked for you. How brilliant! Our parkrun is slightly long too but better than being too short and not making that 5k record.
When does Keswick parkrun close , or are discussions going on about the tarmac suggestion?
They are still arguing about the tarmac - but the route is closed already and they are installing the new bridges and digging the tunnel under the A66. We won't get the Railway path back until late next year.
Both. Unusually they were exactly the same. This means that I was actually faster than I thought, because there is some stationary time at the start while I jog on the spot waiting for the crush to move along.
Well done - thanks for posting - inspiring. My pb is 34:66 I really want to get sub 30 but the idea of taking s minute off per k seems impossible BUT youβve got there so so can I
Persistence. I tried intervals, specifically 30-20-10 style, and all I got was a strained Hamstring. I'm sure proper training would have speeded things though.
Congradulations I am dreaming of a sub 30 time. I am wondering if did you do distance training to improve your time I am thinking of doing the bridge to 10k as I seem stuck at 38.58 or 39.00. Any tips would be much appreciated very well doneπππ
I tried extending the runs as a way of improving 5Km times. Not sure if it worked or not. The 10k was quite honestly an accident, I went out to run 7, and found myself 3Km from home... (Note to self, look at map before run).
JuJu's plan is excellent. Don't push too hard too fast or you will end up on the IC.
Thanks I definetly will be taking it easy as I learnt my lesson the last time I overtrained. As a result I was not running for months aftetwards. I am getting a bit obsessed with time so I think I will just go back to enjoying the absolute miracle that I am actually running thanks again and Happy Running
Ahhh, lovely! πππΌ So good to finally achieve a personal goal. And you certainly kept on trying! A for achievement and another A for dedication and perseverance. πππΆπ <trumpet fanfare> Hurrah!
Havnt ran this week, been on a river cruise and just leaving Lisbon now. I must have put on the half stone or so I had lost. Sun is rising and it is quite warm.
