Hull parkrun: matched my pb exactly

This was odd! My parkrun pb was an absolute fluke back in February and I’ve been around 2-3 minutes slower ever since. I’ve just been across to Hull and ran East Park with the three other ladies that I’m running the marathon relay with in two weeks. Not been too well this week so was just going to see how it went, and then an older gentleman latched into me. He was very chatty, a club runner who regularly runs marathons and HM’s, and he basically talked to me and encouraged me all the way round! Initially I found it a bit disconcerting, but in the end I just accepted it and tried to keep going. The screenshot shows how varied my times are (the 48-minuter was Pwllheli, on sand), but the three at the top of the last are the last three weeks: all different courses so not really comparable but I’m still pleased. I’m not someone who has been naturally progressing speed-wise, and am generally just happy to be out there pootling along at my pace.

Happy running x

I thought for one moment when I saw 13.27 that was your running time, 🤔it was the time you posted this post, your times are OK.

That part of talking to someone while running can be an advantage or sometimes an disadvantage.

Today at the parkrun I was at, I began to slow down a little when a lady runner started to talk to me when she began to overtake me, however, I quickened up my pace and surprisingly could keep up with her to the finishing line with a PB of 32.01, so I can thank her for that. 😊

Great! I have to say it was a very one-sided conversation!!! I managed the odd grunt or ‘you can go ahead, it’s fine’!

13.27... I imagine that would be a parkrun record!! I can’t do that for one mile!!

Glad you kept up with that runner: that’s a great time, Alan 👍

12.37. is the track world record for the 5000 metres (5K)

That’s just incredible! But at parkrun?? I suppose each route is different so there can’t be an overall record. I’ll have to check my usual parkrun’s website now for our record

Before I got to my nearest parkrun website I saw that there is an overall parkrun record: 13.48 (male) and 15.50 (female) 😱

I don't think that Kenyan who ran that 5000 metres world record on a running track would run it at a parkrun in that time, he would probably run it in around the 13/14 minutes mark, it would depend which parkrun he was at, those elete world record holders would use parkrun as a warmup to the main event that same day.

It can help to have someone pushing you just that little bit. Well done.

Thank you! I mostly felt guilty as he clearly could have run at least 15 mins faster!

All good here: busy busy as ever but I have a race next week and then a couple more in Oct and November so I really need to get back to my running routine. It’s slipped a bit recently. Hanging around in York all day today as my daughter is on her coaching course so I’ve brought my kit!
