Yesterday I received an email from ParkRun congratulating me on my third anniversary. That was 20th May 2017 the day before my 60th birthday. So today (being my 63rd birthday) I’ve been out for a celebratory 10k. A lovely morning albeit a bit too hot towards the end. Mr Wizzie plodded along behind me, very generous of him considering he’s so much faster than me.
Sorry I don’t post much these days but rarely have anything exciting to report. I started C25k on Feb 14th 2017 and I’ve been running three times a week ever since. Distances vary between 4k and 10k but I don’t set any records for speed! The snails are still overtaking me on the hills!
I love reading all your posts, it’s good to hear from those of you who have been around as long or longer than me and also so many new runners working through Ju-ju’s magic 10k.
As a total non runner until the age of 59yrs 9 mnths I continue to be amazed that I’m still running. You lovely people keep me going so I thank you all for your inspiring, motivating and encouraging posts. My running may not be fast and it’s certainly not pretty but I’m still getting out there and fingers crossed I’ll be celebrating 4 years running next year.
Keep safe and stay well everyone ... and Happy Running!

What a lovely post, and to have got to the point of having running so embedded in your life is wonderful... I sense a real love for it too. And what a lovely way to celebrate your 3 years at parkrun, I hope that it wont be long before we can safely go back
Lovely post. We started our C25K journey around the same time as each other. My 3rd parkrun Birthday was at the end of April. Well done for keeping it going. I love 5K, and I also do the odd 7K and 10K. But 90% of my running is 5K. Congratulations again .
Happy birthday! My story is quite similar although I spent slightly longer not-running!! 😂 Enjoy your non-record-breaking runs (like me) and avoid hills at all cost (like me!). Have a great day
I’m forever hopeful (of a Pb) tinged with a huge dollop of realism!! 😂 Latest ones were purely because I’ve run for longer 😁 I do however own a running watch and spend a great deal of energy trying NOT to look at it while I run. It’s too easy to be led by numbers and I’m sure that’s not why any of us started. Hope you’re relaxing with a drink of your choice now. Cheers and happy birthday again
A very happy birthday. That a lovely inspiring post, so glad you aee still enjoying regular runs. I only started last August aged 57 but already cant imagine not running. Who knows, older and wiser - we know what's good for us. Happy running 🤗
Thank you ... and well done you. Like you, I can’t imagine not running now, I feel fitter than I have done for years ... of course we know what’s good for us! Happy running to you too.
Thanks for a great post. I have found it hugely beneficial in all sorts of ways. Started about the same time as you and am of similar vintage. I'm enjoying just running around the trails near home. I do the occasional events just for soemthing different to do. Its definitely one of my better decisions. Perspectives change. Now when our adult children come home or we visit them ( remember that people? ), we will often go out for a run together. Thats one of the many special gifts that running has given me. Well, that and a slight shoe obsession!
