Hello all. Happy Saturday and Happy Weekend. I am only just up and out of my bed. it is almost 11am. This is disgraceful. I have had a very busy couple of weeks with work lately. I was working on a couple of projects which had me working from early to late. I was exhausted. I also have not ran since last weekend. I just basically worked. But now those projects are behind me and I am back.
It is (not)parkrun day everyday of course, but to keep some flavor of parkrun alive some of us like to run a 5K at the weekend and call it our own Virtual parkrun. No matter how tired I was today, if the real parkrun was on I would have been up early and gone. I would not have missed it.
It is a beautiful morning here. Blue Skies. So I am going to go and have a late Breakfast and get ready for my (not)parkrun. Good luck everyone and Happy Running. Looking forward to reading the run reports.

One of those medicinal purposes only runs CC; you know it is doing you good but the buzz is missing. Bit the same for me this morning; but we keep going!!π
Enjoy your run tomorrow Cheeky and put that crappy one behind you. The ground is way too wet now. On firmer footing you will fly I'm sure. Happy running.
Good morning Damien, I was just about to start the weekly (not) parkrunSite this week as I did about two months ago but better late than never, you deserve that long lie
This morning I ran my 36th virtual and 23rd (not) parkrun, the weather sunny and showery with a 8C temperature. I did not have my metromone app with me but the time I ran of 32.58 is the fastest time since I got the app, the first sub 33 minute 5K for more than two months, enjoy your run ππΎπ
You obviously lead a virtuous life Al. A heavy shower nailed me as soon as I stopped running....no (takeaway) flat white and brownie from the cafe today!!
PS. I notice looking at my 2019 diary that on this day exactly a year ago on Saturday 23 November 2019 my time at a official Parkrun was almost the same as today at 32.43, today it was 32.58.
Fantastic Alan. Great running. We could have ran together today, I did 32:57.6 , Like you I was delighted with a sub 33 minute time as I had not run all week.
Morning everyone! I got up late too - a good nightβs sleep after a week of terrible insomnia (might have something to do with last nightβs G&Ts π€ͺ) 12c and sunny in Lincolnshire when I finally set off at 10.45 so back to short sleeved t-shirt. Not a great run and I stopped to chat to a friend and forgot to pause Strava so a time of 33.52, my slowest (not) parkrun, but at least I did it. Happy running and have a good weekend!
Well done Sandie. Me too today. Slow but at least I did it. Just getting out and running is the key I think now. I've given up on speed until parkrun returns.
Morning all. It is lovely here today , the rain which was forecast has not arrived.
We went off on our usual Saturday route today, pressing our Garmin buttons to start on the dot of 9.00. As usual I ran 6km, logging just 5 for the (not)parkrun page.
Lovely takeaway butty again, although we had to wait a bit longer than usual because they were really busy
9 degrees this morning; better than the 6c of mid week which had me digging out my thickest bottoms! It was quite claggy under foot and from the start I felt as though I was dragging a ball and chain behind me. No aches or pains, just in plod mode. I did give the xtra heavy training band a whirl last night; Ifelt ok this morning before I set off, but maybe it took bit of strength out of my ageing legs!! All of which is a long winded excuse for running a 47:01 7K. The best continuous 5k I can carve out of that is 32:27. The wind was in my face for about two thirds of the run, so that didn't help. Still, I got out there and did it and my calves and achilles were fine. Wednesday is 15k/16k day.....maybe switch back to a lighter exercise band in the meantime! As soon as I stopped running it absolutely threw it down, so no flat white or brownie; However, lovely Mrs BC came to the rescue with coffee and a walnut whipπ.
Nothing wrong with plod mode BC! It happens to us all. The weather really is all over the place isnβt it? I did my 10k on Thursday in 7c (felt like 3c) with the 2 runs either side both in double figures π€·ββοΈ Ooh, walnut whip - didnβt know they still made them. Used to love licking the cream out π
Walnut whips seem to have diminished in size since I last had one!! π€·π»ββοΈFewer calories.I need to focus on just upping distance and avoid getting diverted by pace. I did a pacey 14k last week (for me that is) which got me a bit excited....plodding is ok for now.
Afternoon Damien, hello all! Bit late today as we were also up late. So late in fact that we did the parkrun quiz whilst I made the rolls for our lunchtime bacon. 11/15, best in ages, even knew some of the answers for once. So late in fact that eldest kitten beat us to it by doing his on campus which is most unusual.
Iβm definitely not 100%, after getting worried about my bpm last week Iβve been trying to sleep more. Had plenty more but todayβs run was still a very high bpm even though I had the heart rate alert on my watch and kept slowing down to compensate. Iβm starting to wonder if Iβm asymptomatic or whether I had it when it seemed I had a cold back in September. Itβs all a bit odd. Trouble is we relate everything to COVID these days. Other than that my resting heart rate is fine so π€·π»ββοΈ
It was 29:36 today and despite my bpm I wasnβt very out of breath at the end and I didnβt feel sick and it all felt very steady so, I really donβt know!! Carry on resting more I suppose (not very good at that!).
Anyway, enough of my worried rambling! Have a lovely runny week everyone and stay safe! πππ
If everything else feels normal, hopefully it isnβt anything to worry about π€π» Sounds like a good run anyway and well done on the quiz. Great score ππ»ππ»
Very well done TailChaser. 29:36 is great considering your not feeling 100%. I don't think you would have anything like the energy to do a time like that if you had COVID. So hopefully it is just a blip with a cold. I was exhausted this week myself. Purely work related and did not run all week. I'm just in from my run now. Just an easy relaxed 5K. I feel all the better for it.
I think youβre probably right Damien, Iβm just getting paranoid. Katnap is going to run with my watch on tomorrow to see if thereβs something wrong with it.
I hope you have a better week this coming week, you seem to be having to work awfully hard at the moment. Glad the run made a difference, what would we do without it?! Take care x
All seems a bit strange TC. Up here we have had more wind recently, it has been muddy underfoot and the temperature has dropped off a bit, so everything is taking a bit more effort. My bpm went haywire for a couple of days after my flu jab, but otherwise all is normal. Some friends say they think that they have had COVID-19 either asymptomatic or disguised as a cold; but then they canβt identify any contacts who have caught it from them. Hope it just disappears as mysteriously as it arrived. π
Good morning/afternoon, Damien. On this side of the Irish Sea we had a clear morning, but I too slept through it.
In Terra Mancunia we currently have a band of pelting rain slowly slanting through the area. Hopefully it'll clear by 3pm and I can go out for my planned Jeffing session before it gets dark.
Hello virtual buddies, no (not) parkrun for me this morning as Saturdays are far too busy here now that people canβt go shopping. City Fibre are attacking all the local pavements so we canβt run around residential streets or the prom.
However, I did a high tide and very windy (not ) parkrun with UTS on Monday, which included having our feet cooled off from the incoming lapping waves. Time including the 2 catch-my-breath breaks .33:30.
So on Thursday we went to a new running location and I was determined to keep going. It was still very windy and chilly enough to wear my thick long sleeve top, buff on my neck and gloves. A lovely running surface and not too busy so I achieved a (not) parkrun PB of 32:45, just 2 seconds off my my previous PB. Whoopie!
A slow long run to follow tomorrow or Monday methinks .
Whoop whoop! Well done Dexy, finally got there. I know youβve been aiming to beat your (not) parkrun PB for a little while. Only problem with PBs is that there is always another one waiting for you π
Very true Sandie, and I would still like to get get back to my real parkrun PB and I think this is the location to do it in the right conditions . Weβll do our speed challenge runs there in December.
Glad you had a lovely lie in this morning, sometimes itβs just what you need. Quite a dull day here in North Wales but tomorrow looks a lot better. Woke up this morning feeling like I could run but my husband managed to persuade me to give the IC couch a few more day. If my ankle still feels good on Wednesday I might try a gentle jog and then if all is well a 5k next Saturday. Hoping all of you have brilliant runs today or when ever you are doing them. Have a lovely weekend everyone x
Your right. A few extra days will do you good. I was at a Physio last Monday. I did not run all week until today. I feel the better of a weeks break. Best of luck for your run on Wednesday.
Hey welcome. No rules. None at all. You can join in anytime. We just do this on a Saturday, but your 5K can be any one from the week. Some people do a 7K or a 10K and log a 5K portion of that run. Some people do their (not)parkrun 5K on a Friday or a Sunday. It doesn't matter when you do it.A group of us here used to run a 5K parkrun every Saturday morning at different locations all over. We were all big fans of parkrun. When pesky COVID-19 put a halt to parkrun I started posting every Saturday and we would just do our own 5K and report back here afterwards. Just for fun.
I only graduated last week but plan to work my way up to 5K. I'm doing 5K 3 times a week but that's a mixture of walking and very slow jogging. Slow and steady wins the race - apparently.
It does indeed and they count too. You can walk the full 5K, jog or run and a combination of all 3. Just pop along and let us know how you got on. I have had runs where I have really struggled and had to take walking breaks (regularly). So just get out and take part. Great to have you on board.
Pleased to learn that my brother did his second (not)parkrun today. He has only done one parkrun, when they visited us at short notice and we were already committed to volunteering (I was tailwalker), so he and my nephew ran and my sister in law and younger nephew marshalled.
Even more pleased that my Monday time was faster than his today
Iβm looking forward to running with my Sister and Brother at a parkrun when it comes back. There is going to be a new parkrun in the town where my parents live. So Iβll be planning on running that.
Evenin' all ( copyright Dixon of Dock Green for those of you of a certain age!). A nice 5k this morning round one of my 'local roads' routes. Seems odd not to see all the kids' football practice when running through the park - just the dog walkers. Abandoned the 'slow running' approach today and achieved 29.51 - just under the wire! Goodnight allπ
Hi Damienair, hi all,I've enjoyed reading everyone's running tales today. Now for my update_nothing exciting.
I am currently on week 6 of JJMP (distance) and still loving it (well , most of the time)
Damp, grey morning with a little wind so lovely weather for a run . Saturday is my longest run day so 5k was the last 5k of my 9k run. Clocked up 9k 1:02:20 last 5k 33:30 so not my fastest, but after having stitch for the first 3k I was just delighted that I managed to complete it feeling comfortable!
I've had stitch on my last couple of runs. I'm not getting any faster and haven't changed eating habits so I really can't workout why! Hope it's not my "new normal"
The stitch seems to happen to me when Iβm running fast and trying to talk! Long deep breaths usually works. Some on here have said that it is sometimes due to insufficient hydration. Well done on your 9k
Thanks for the information I'll try the slower breathing .I will also have a look at hydration, now you mention it both of the last 2 runs were the days following particularly intense work days . Working from home without the continuous office coffee cycle I sometimes forget to drink (or eat) when beavering away!
Itβs easy to forget to drink so I fill a big jug with water and a few sprigs of mint or slices of cucumber and make sure I drink at least 1 jug in addition to teas and coffees. Itβs a useful reminder
I was determined to get out at some point this weekend, despite the gremlins and household events doing their best to thwart me. In the end it didn't happen until 2:30 this afternoon.
I did my 5k as part of a longer 7k /60 minute easy slow run Time for the first 5k was 42.48.
It was a nice relaxed run, in near perfect running weather - 10 degrees, beautiful sunshine and no wind. I ran down past the rugby club, around the local nature reserve and into the woods - which culminated in my feet getting totally submersed in a large muddy puddle 2 minutes before the end of my run. Ah well - I expect my running shoes will scrub clean .
I hope you enjoyed your lie in - sometimes we deserve it -and it sounds like you did!
Well done on your 7K nice easy run and pity about the puddle. Hope your running shoes scrub up well, I'm sure they will. When ever I have gone into a muddy puddle I have kept my eye open for a nice non muddy puddle to use as a rinsing puddle to clean the running shoes. :-)Damien
I trotted round my old Chichester parkrun course on Saturday. I have a lot of really good memories from this PR. I was actually really glad it wasnβt the real thing though as my legs were totally dead π and I donβt think I could have gone any faster just scraping the 5k under 30 minutes. Contrast that with that todayβs 5k of 21.50! What a difference a day makes! Really weird how these good and bad days happen. π€·ββοΈ
Well done Brian. I'd be very happy with a sub 30 minute 5K now. I know what you mean. Last year my parkrun PB was 25:36, now I am struggling to do a sub 32 minute 5K. But still happy to be running. Wow, a 21:50 5K is super fast.Damien
I forgot to do my own little run report. On Saturday I did my (not)parkrun at 3:30pm and just did a nice easy 5K on my usual 5K route. I took it nice and easy and made it across the line in a time of 32:57. It was great to get out and complete a run.
