New Parkrun PB

Last Saturday I did my nearest Parkrun not yet done which is a 15 minute drive away from me. My 9 year old Son usually runs with me but I could not get him out of bed last Saturday. So having missed the Parkrun last weekend he wanted me to take him back to Deerpark Parkrun this morning. It’s a pretty tough course, lots of hills and it’s a challenge. We were on fire today, we both achieved new Parkrun PB’s, even though there were high winds and an undulating course. My 9 year old Son finished his 9th Parkrun 1 place ahead of me in 27:31 and I came over the line in 27:48 for my 32nd Parkrun. That included a 10-15 second stop on the 2nd kilometre to wipe Oisin’s nose.

Great to break through the 28 min barrier at Parkrun and for the first time I got over 50% in my age graded score. 50.6% but I’ll take it.😀

Next week we will be doing some Parkrun tourism so as to celebrate Oisin’s 10th Parkrun.

Happy weekend,

Damien

Thank you so much. I really enjoy running with my little man. We are both big Parkrun fans.

Congratulations to both you and Oisin for running a sub 28 minute 5K at this mornings Parkrun, it is a dream for many here to do it in less than 30 minutes, let alone 28. Who knows next weeks run could be even quicker.

Thank you so much. We are going to a large Parkrun next week. My previous PB time there is over 32 mins. So we will aim for a sub 30 minute time.

Just perfect...both of you x

Thank you Oldfloss. When I told him we had a new Parkrun PB he just shrugged his shoulders and said ‘’Great’’. 😂

Easy knowing he isn’t out in the wind and rain during the week doing interval training. He just hops out of bed on a Saturday morning and runs a PB. Nothing to it.😀

The joy of youth.... my small granddaughter can run me into the ground and she is only two and a half! :)

Thats the way with young people who have the natural ability to run fast, I was a spectator at a 5K Santa Dash last December and there was a 12 year old boy who ran it in 25 minutes. When I told him when he finished what a great time he ran it in he just shrugged his shoulders and said thanks. 😊 With us older ones we would be eleted with such a time..

I know. I was elated and he was as cool as a cucumber. Oh to be young.

Well done to you both 👍🏻 you are so speedy 🚀 😃

Thank you. We are far from speedy, but at least we can now call ourselves mid field runners.

Believe me, that is speedy damienair, especially with hills . Some of us can’t do sub 30 in the flat yet. 😉😛

Congratulations to both of you on your PBs. Do the juniors get a T-shirt after 10 runs? If so you need to dress up or carry balloons next week.

Thank you Dexy5. Yes Juniors get a white milestone Parkrun T-Shirt with 10 on the back . We are going to meet my 2 Sisters at Marley Parkrun in Dublin and Celebrate his 10th Parkrun. It’s a big field of about 600 running at that Parkrun. Not sure about balloons, but I was thinking of getting a T-Shirt printed for the occasion.

I’m sure he’ll get lots of support along the way.

Ah double well done for you and your little runner 😀. And great times too including that nose wipe. That did make me smile. My nose was running quicker than my legs today too.

Sorry. Replied to you below.

Ha ha yeah. I was giggling, we are always telling him not to wipe his nose with his sleeve. He had tissues in his jacket but that of course was in the car. So I told him to use his sleeve to wipe his nose.😀

That’s wonderful! Well done him for getting you out there (sounds like it was that way around). Thise times are amazing too! Maybe one day, I’ll run like a 9 year old ...

If by running like a 9 year old you breath heavy and struggle for the first 2K whilst mucus runs out your nose, I think we all run like that😀.

Haha yes well I suppose that’s a start, I’m sure it’s part if the training plan!

Smokin fast 💨 You both were on fire! I still have nose clearing “issues” so tell him he’s not alone 😁

I’ll bring tissues myself the next time. I may need them too.

Fab. Nice of him to pace for you 😂

damienair profile image
damienairAdministrator in reply togrumpyoldgirl

Thanks. Yes he is good like that. He always struggles for the first 2K. Then he settles into the run for the next 2.5K and with 500 meters to go he drops the hammer and goes for it. I drag him around at the start and then I can’t keep up.

Bless him, I'd love to have something left for the last 500! He's going to go like lightning when he's older, good on you for getting him into it.
