Feeling great, falling hard

I felt great when I got up yesterday, and after warming up was looking forward to a fast (for me) 5k. I’m trying to prepare for the next Ju-Ju’s Magic plan, so I’m doing one ‘normal’ 5k a week, one longer run and one attempt at intervals.

Anyway, I’d just set off down a favourite woodland track, and was heading down the first slope feeling GOOOOOD when I tripped on a half-buried rock and thudded and skidded to a stop. I probably brought it on myself because I recently thought, ‘I haven’t fallen over for ages, I must be better at running now’. Hubris, clearly.

I got back up and did 5k, and bizarrely still enjoyed my run, although it was a slow one.

When I got home I inspected the damage, and I have grazes on both knees, and my left thigh and even my belly, through my clothes, a bashed-up left hand, and right elbow, and today bruises are appearing everywhere.

I’m a bit worried because I’m supposed to be doing a recce run for a parkrun I’m hoping to set up with a new friend tomorrow. As far as I can tell, apart from bumps and scrapes and strained muscles in the upper arms, I’m fine. (Obviously I managed yesterday), and my friend is 9 weeks pregnant and suffering from morning sickness so maybe it’ll be more of a stroll in the sun!

But, I’m going to remember how much I was enjoying the first 200m, and how good I felt. I RUN. Yay! 🏃🏻‍♀️😄

Ouch! Take it easy and rest until you know exactly where all the aches and pains are. Hope you make a swift recovery.

Ouch, sounds nasty. Good luck tomorrow! Hope your friend feels ok - my daughter is 3 weeks off giving birth! ❤️

She probably won’t do parkrun tomorrow then! Congratulations to you all, and all the best for the birth and beyond. (There’s a runner at Parc Montsouris parkrun who sometimes runs with his baby daughter in her buggy. Apparently he still breaks 21 minutes!) x

Oh wow! That’s dedication for you! There are lots of buggy pushing speedsters at my local PR too. They still manage to fly past me! 😅

Ouch! Hope you are ok? Falling can shake you up a bit - but superficial cuts and grazes heal quickly fortunately! 🙂

I’ll be fine, just discovering more achy bits today than yesterday😀

Ouch. I know exactly how you feel Lizz. I tripped on something while doing a run on the magic plan and ended up being taken for medical treatment. You just want to turn the clock back and redo it more carefully. I hope you are feeling better tomorrow. Walking the course will be a good way of getting an idea of the slowest time . 🤕 🇫🇷

Now that’s a really good idea. I’ll see how I feel, but if I have to walk, I’ll make a virtue of necessity. Xxx

Should have said, Dexy5, sorry to hear you had to have treatment. Hope you’re fully recovered. Xxx

I’ve got a scar which is beginning to fade 10 months after the event and a chipped elbow bone but I think of it as a badge of honour.

Ooh, that sounds so painful. But, yes, a definite badge of honour.

I’m just slightly cross that my beautifully evenly-tanned legs (from running) will have scabby and then blotchy white knees until next summer now. Hey ho, it’s not stopping me running.

Maybe a trip to somewhere hot after the scabs have gone?

I wish! I get all my holidays when schools are closed, so back to whiteboard in a couple of weeks. Still, I won’t be wearing shorts then. Xxx
