I've got 'flu (proper 'flu with 102F at times) and it has been going on for 2 weeks. This explains why you have not seen me post, except as comments.
On Saturday I was in Hoddesdon, Herts, for a conference (warning: conferences when you have 'flu are horrible), I thought I was getting better, but it was a mistake. Sorry to anyone I infected.
However, right next door to the conference centre there was a Parkrun, so putting on my thinnest kit (it always feels too hot to run south of Kendal) I went to try it. Flat, I thought, easy little jog, no pressure.
Wrong. Zero net meters of ascent maybe, but 3 times up a very steep but short hill, and lots of 30 pace little climbs, was far worse than Keswick's long slow jobby.
So my PB for the Barclay Park Parkrun is 35.44. Maybe the 'flu and 2 weeks bed rest, and a 6 hour drive the day before, had something to do with it too.
What I will say is that the folks there were super friendly, and the marshals and locals super friendly, and I can recommend it!

Oh my word TOF, what a wretched few weeks you’ve had. At least you’re getting back to your running again now, and the stronger you get, the more enjoyable they’ll start to be again. 😀🏃👍
So sorry about that TOF, yes I have noticed you have not been running at Keswick over the last few Saturday's, nevertheless that time of 35.44 at the Barclay Park run is very good considering the circumstances, not sure if you got the flu vaccination, if you did that is very strange that you got the flu, Buttercupkid said she got the flu despite having had got the jag. Just hope you are back soon running at Keswick.
Oh yes, I got my jab in November. This particular variant has been doing the rounds here, variously called 3-week flu or 5-week flu. Sweated-up again last night, so I'm not out of the woods yet. Might try a run tomorrow though.
On no, poor you. I hope you are soon feeling better and back on the road again. Having a temperature feels worse in the summer than in the winter I think.
Great that you tried parkrun tourism despite not being well.
Ugh, that sounds awful. I hope you're starting to feel better soon. Be kind to your body, keep your runs short and easy. You'll be back stronger than ever before you know it.
Oh no, sorry you have been poorly! I’ve only had 1 run in the last 2 weeks as well - not flu but a horribly bad cold, sneezing, coughing so I can sympathise 🤒 On our way to Santiago now though!
That sounds nasty! But you ran an amazing time at Barclay Park bring under the weather! Hope you are looking after yourself and are back in the swing of life and running soon.
I was told it varies as to whereabouts in the country you have the jab- my flu jab nurse said some areas have the vaccine that covers 3 strains, some 4 and some the lot!! It’s a lottery !!! I was lucky that mine had the one that covers the lot ( had mine beg of last winter) but unlucky that I managed to get flu the January before that when work kept making me miss my 1st free flu jab appointments.
Ended up with 3 month cough and now have late onset asthma and use inhalers.
It also depends how old you are. The pharmacy delayed mine until late November because they were waiting for the 'Over-65 version'. No attempt to see how fit an over-65 I was - a damned sight fitter than most 35 year olds.
I have to admit I am rather critical of the NHS one-size-fits-all prescribing practices. They should prescribe more C25K!!!
My diagnosis of LOA was spurious, and once I got my lungs clear by running, all the asthmatic symptoms went away. Checked my last Ventolin inhaler the other day, and it's a year out of date, and I've never used it. Maybe you'll be lucky too, see how it is in a year.
Hope so. I did 3 months without inhalers end of last year and was barely dragging one foot in front of the other let alone running but I’ll see about trying again end of summer and see how I go,
Ha! I looked at your map and thought... wait a minute... that looks like Barclay Park!
That is a deceivingly HARD parkrun, it’s up amongst some of the hardest in the 🇬🇧 apparently, not Whinlatter hard, but it’s hard...I know it well. Like you say, you just run up a hill 3 times.
