Lurker saying hello in a quest for accountability!

Hello! I have been lurking around on and off since I finished C25K back in the autumn but not posted very much. I have had an up and down consolidation/bridge experience - I started doing Juju's plan in January and got up to 8k before some (un-running-related, but distracting) health issues made me fall off the running wagon for a lot of march and april. During that time my boyfriend, who used to do adventure racing but had basically stopped exercising for our whole relationship due to injury and then inertia, decided to get back in to it. He has started and is so far sticking to a proper training plan and is working towards a triathalon (and ultimately he hopes an iron man!). I guess his new lease of enthusiasm has inspired me to bite the bullet and sign up for my first proper 10k in June, and hopefully a second one at the beginning of September :) I'm pretty slow but very consistent so far at 1.03 for 8km, so hoping to manage the 10k in 1 hr 20 mins. Just wanted to say it 'out loud' in a public forum really so that I will actually have to do it!

Thanks Roseabi! I feel like the extra focus means I am having fun with it for the first time in the while - feels like an exciting challenge rather than a chore :)

Go you EmilyReads!! Thanks for saying it out loud. I know what it’s like to fall off the wagon. I’m back on the mission myself! Good luck and it would be great to hear how you’re doing! 😁❤️

Thank you! Sometimes committing to things in words is what makes them real, right? Good luck with your own getting back into things (it sounds from your posts like you're doing (eponomously) fabulously! :)

You’ve said it EmilyReads! You’ve signed up for a race and we’re here to cheer you on. I’m still on a massive high from my first ever 10k race last weekend. You’ll love it, you really will. You’re also not dissimilar in pace to me. I did mine in just over 1:19. 😀🏃‍♀️

Happy running to you. Keep us posted with how your training is going. 👍

Well done on your first 10k! Read your race report and it sounded like a blast - can't wait to experience the post race high for myself! :)

One word: epic! 👍❤️

Well done, we are all watching! I find that coming on the forum is a significant factor in the amount of running goals that I achieve. People here are so encouraging and have such good advice, it would be silly not to :) I don't have any runners at home and whilst my husband is really proud and supportive, I see people glaze over when I start...At least your BF will understand :)

Good luck

Haha yes I'm lucky he will happily talk about training strategies/equipment/etc for hours. I never thought I would be the sort of person who would want to, but it does get inside your brain doesn't it....

Well done for signing up ! If you've already run 8k you'll have no problem with 10 😀

I heard you too Emily 🤩

If you can do 8, you can do 10 😊

That's the rumour, hoping it's true! I'm pretty confident I will be fine doing it slow and steady in training - it's the getting caught up and starting too fast on race day I am nervous about!

Definitely! Now that I've been back regular runs for a couple of weeks I'm going to follow from where I left off and try the first 9km week this week :) Looking forward to mixing things up a bit with some intervals in the shorter runs.
