Bluebells, 8k, lost in the woods and an 🦉

Hello runny peeps, having everybody scoring 10k while my back was turned finally got me out to the woods for a run today. I wasn't sure how far I would go so I planned a route that I could cut short or extend. I started with a loop around the bluebell trail, then headed out on an out and back path. There was a confusing smell of bluebells mixed with wild garlic in the air, very strange! To begin with my leg muscles felt really tight and heavy, and my knee was niggling, but then that strange thing happens where I got my groove and just kept an easy pace going. I clenched on the inclines and all was well, and my knee stopped grumbling too. So, at the end of the out and back I had done just over 7k and felt fine, so back around the bluebell trail I went. 8k!!! I did it!!! Quick stroll back to the car, and, um, ok I could have sworn this was the way to the car... Oops! Finally figured out where I was and where the car was. Only took 15 minutes 😁 And then, as I took a quiet path back to the car, an owl swooped through the trees and landed on a tree stump a few yards away. It swivelled its head around to look at me, and I of course stopped to look at it. Two little birds then started flying around it, and it took off again and flew away, still chased by the smaller birds. Then I could see that it was carrying something small in its claws 😵 now that's something you don't see every day. Sorry you can't smell the bluebells. The owl didn't hang around long enough for a picture.🦉

It's a beautiful place, you never know what you'll see. It's easy to get lost but it's easy to sort yourself out again.

Imagine all the beautiful things we missed by not running sooner.

That sounds pretty perfect to me🤩🦉

So glad you enjoyed it.

Thanks jell, I know what you mean, I never imagined I would be the sort of person that went for a run anywhere, never mind through the woods on my own. It was pretty special 😊

What a beautiful place to run, and how amazing to see an owl - I thought they were nocturnal.

I don't remember the last time I saw one, but never in the middle of the morning. Sometimes at dusk. And it was so close, it wasn't in the least bit bothered by me. I need to look it up in my bird book, but I think it was a tawny owl.

Well I'm not sure, because I was lost 😂😂😂 it was the bluebell trail behind the meadow. I expected to come out by the car, and I was flipping nowhere near! 🤣

My personal theory is that the paths rearrange themselves around me, a bit like the staircases in Hogwarts.

It's a peculiar smell, at first I thought there was something wrong with my sense of smell because bluebells shouldn't smell like that 😀 The owl was amazing, when you come home we'll have to try and find it again.
