Out for a 10k on my lovely trails this morning - a little earlier than usual on a Saturday in order to beat the heat. Such a beautiful morning - up the road from my house before turning on to the farmland and and local bridleways where I love to run. Last time up here it was SO muddy but after all the sunshine and dry weather during the week, the ground was better under foot and lovely to see the bluebells just beginning to come in to flower. Still mud aplenty in places but more dry and sticky too, which was ok until I turned my ankle on a dry rut. No major damage done although it is a bit achey this afternoon, so I am icing as I type this, just in case! The hardest part of today's route is running up to the top of an old railway cutting at about 8.5k, a slight detour from the larger bridleways where the old track used to be) It is a gnarly old path of roots and mud in places and I wondered how I would find it today in the warm weather. I took my time, dug deep and was happy with how my legs felt as I crested the top of the hill (hills really do make you stronger!) The best bit however was all the sheep in the field next to me! Lots of ewes with their lambs trying to seek out a little shade under the trees around the edge of their field. Sheep so often scatter as I run by (๐Ÿ˜ฎ๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿฝโ€โ™€๏ธ!) but today many were lying down and didn't seem bothered by my huffing and puffing past them just the other side of the fence. I have a little soft spot for sheep and was so close to them as I ran by in the sunshine admiring them with their young! It was one of those special running moments and I should have stopped to take a photo really..next time! Anyway, the reward for running up a hill is of course runnning down the other side(๐Ÿ˜€) and eventually back on to the old railway line which took me down to our recreation ground and then home, with a smile on my (rather red) face!๐Ÿ™‚
