3.5k done today, saving the longer run 7k for the weekend. Lower back still a little sore and pfffft it’s annoying me now, though getting better every day.
It was fine. Nothing special, a very ordinary run, but I felt nice after. Conclusion: 3.5k feels like a very funny distance. It’s kinda neither here nor there, isn’t it?

Thanks Ted. I think my sore back stopped it feeling like a recovery run unfortunately. But it was okay, and I am glad I managed it no problem at all. Felt odd stopping at 3.5k though. x
I noticed I am a larger pfffffft than Neil pffft. Sorry , Techie dinasaur, now lost my emojis, some would say great, just out of interest what is pffft?
Hello Sadie! V sorry to hear about your back - careful with that pilates!
Funny you should say that about 3.5K - I ran 3.5ish yesterday as an 'errand' run so they are often by definition here and there for me. But it does seem 'short' to me - unless I incorporate intervals or 'proper' hills (my local inclines don't count as proper hills any more - get me!)
Well done Sadie. You are doing so well with this program, just calmly sailing through it and clocking up the runs. i think your easy going running attitude stands you in good stead, yet you are pretty fast xxx
Thanks Flick. I think I come across as having more of an easy going running attitude than I really have…I mean, I wouldn't want to inflict my full neurotic self on you guys! But I have to say, running has definitely given me a whole new level of confidence in myself.
I will admit to a wobble this morning (for the first time during this programme). Out of nowhere, I thought to myself, 'I am not going to manage the 7k on the weekend'. No idea where that came from, and why, so need to work on that silly voice in me head!
The silly voice will have gone by the next run. just a small gremlin popping its head above the parapet and testing the waters (to thoroughly mix my metaphors - or whatever they are). xxx
They do seem to get smaller with time. I went out and began my run while the kids were on their way to school yesterday - and you know how merciless teenagers can be. This is the same me who used to only run in the dark for fear of being seen, so those were some of my gremlins. I think we are born to run but have forgotten how to be at ease with that. We are finding our way back to our birthright, and sometimes it feels strange, and that presents obstacles. Children don't think about how they feel or look, they just run and skip everywhere. We need to recapture that thoughtless innocence. xxx
Aw, thanks ickle. I don't have much flexibility in my lower back, and think I was a bit over-enthusiastic during a session of back extensions (which I hate!)
"Errand run" – I have not heard that before, but I like it! 3.5k – short but sweet. x
literally running errands has been one crutch that has kept me going sometimes! Get the errand done, and the run, and thus get in one of my aimed-for 3 a week. Though it's not always appropriate - I can't run to a supermarket and then sweat all over the fruit and veg! And sweating is unavoidable in this humidity!
oh and oof - if a back extension is what I imagine it is - a yoga back-bend? I always feel like I'm going to damage something.
And yes, back extensions are kinda back bendy. Cannot remember what the pose is called in yoga, but think the one where you lay on your stomach and lift the arms and legs off the floor. That has NEVER felt good for me. 😕
Hi Sadie,
Well done on your run! I'd be interested to hear, did you run at a faster pace than you would have done the 7k run? And if so, how was it? I'm probably going to do the 3.5k one before work tomorrow, and hoping to push the pace a little to try and improve my performance in general. My theory is push the shorter runs, you'll benefit in the longer ones.
And Yes, 3.5k is a very funny distance. When we were starting C25K it would have felt like a marathon, but I think now it's one of those "meh" distances. I'm quite sure I'm still capable of screwing it up though
Thank you, running bud! I (unintentionally) ran it at a ridiculously fast pace. Average 4.51 mins per km, a new Sadie-runs PB. I don’t know what is going on, honest I don’t. I have to seriously slow down for my 7k or I will never make it to the end. It’s a ridiculous problem to have, seriously. I am baffled.
I don’t yet understand this running malarkey. I found the 2.5k hard in the first week of B210K, then accidentally ran a fairly easy 7k the next week. Excuse my French, but WTF?!
Thank you but noooooo! I would like to point out that it was fast, but not particularly easy or pleasurable. For pleasurable, I do believe one has to sloooow down! This is going to be my aim for my 7k this weekend, and to force the issue I will be revisiting an old route, which has a hill and winding woodland. 😁 And I am going to make like a snail, slow and steady.
Yeah, that’s a good plan. You don’t have to be a snail, but you need to pull back I would think. For me holding 7:15 per km was just perfect. I know you’re wise in these things Sadie, just trust your instincts and you’ll be fine. Anyway, you’ve already done a 7k haven’t you?
