Wow - so I started my first 1 min run on the 8th January, it took me three months to complete C25K, since then I have run around 5K twice a week and am thrilled with my new found ability.
It's been a quite journey, so what have I experienced so far??
I couldn't have done it without the support of my wife, who has taken control of bath and bed time of our children and allowed me to go out 2-3 times a week and put up with me moaning about aching legs.
This forum has inspired me, through all the stories of heroic ambition, of people just like me, that are aiming to run.
I need at least 2-3 days between runs to recover, (and fit in with a busy life).
Feeling self conscious fades with time, (starting C25K in the depths of winter allowed me to run in the dark), now it's mainly on the 5min warm up walk I still feel strangely conspicuous.
Wee before you leave the house, or its kinda uncomfortable.
Singing along to music, messes up your breathing, equally try not to swallow flies.
Sneezing repeatedly can put you off your stride.
Sometimes, my desire to run, is driven by the fear of not being able to - if I don't
Now and then, a run here or there, I actually feel amazing.
My legs ache as much now as they did on week 1, except now I'm running 5K.
Blaming your brand new trainers for aching knees and shins and going back to the shop to check they are the correct fit, leads to embarrassment when you realise it's all due to trying to go too far, too fast, too soon
You can come back from ten days off with a chest infection and find you can still run.
Stretching after a run does help the aches and pains, and it make you feel like a real runner.
Ahh there is such a lot more I could bore you all with!
So as I wonder what the next six months will hold, I aim to stretch my runs and reach 10k, but above all, just to keep on enjoying this feeling - it's amazing what you can achieve if you put your mind (and body) to it!
