10k ! How did that happen

After completing C25K 6 months ago I continued running with many aims, getting PBs for 5k, for 1 mile, bettering my park run times etc. I didn’t really have a distance goal other than covering 7 to 8 to improve my 5k experience. Not aiming fully for 10k would be partly due to me thinking it would be too hard, too boring, time consuming, increase of injury etc.

I have been enjoying some fab runs with my amazing local running group , joining them on Monday runs usually covering around 5k whilst tackling the local hills, I have been on a couple of Longer Wednesday pack runs, this week having had some really good hilly Monday runs I thought I would join a faster Wednesday group.

It was good run, hard-work, included a 2k hill climb rising 250m, and I ran 10.10km. I did it, I can do it, I enjoyed it, I will do 10k again.

Running clubs aren’t for everyone and I am lucky to have an amazing one on my doorstep, the group runs are free to anyone and it doesn’t cost anything to run with them.

I know my running has been enhanced and I have improved and enjoyed my running so much due to running with the group.

So a big up to Todmorden Harriers Running Club and if you have a club near you check them out.

Can I please have my 10k diploma please.

Sounds so good! Imagine you could have been missing out on all that if you hadn't started c25k!

Congratulations 🎉

Absolutely. So many people come to realise they enjoy running when given the support and opportunity, I liken it to trying Olives, so many people try them often when younger and hate them, but often the time comes when they try them again and realise they love them. You never quiet know when your body is going to be ready for olives or running. And this site is brilliant at supporting and encouraging people to try it, push it and keep at it and hopefully love it.

Well done!

You're not far from me. My regular 10km jaunt includes a section on the Rochdale canal, though I have nowhere near as much climbing involved as you've done.

We do sometimes have visitors from Todmorden at my local parkrun in Chadderton.

Congratulations and well done to you! Running your first 10K is special and something you’ll always remember.

Running with others can really push us and it sounds as if you’re getting real benefit from the club 👍
