Weekly chat 25th July - 31 July
Busy busy week this week, not sure I am going to get much done exercise wise. If I find little Windows I will try and fit things in.
My week is quite the opposite to RFC's. It is the last week of my summer holidays and I have very few plans - my brother in law's birthday on Wednesday, that's all. That should give me plenty of time for training.
I did strength training yesterday and would like to go running today, but I have running club tomorrow, so I am afraid of overdoing it... The sensible thing to do would probably just be a walk today...
I have also promised my daughter to take her swimming this week.
I am starting my "Back to the future" programme this week - completely heart rate and time based with no concern for pace whatsoever - 4x30 minute easy sessions during the week gives 2 hours of running , building to 3 hours over 4 weeks. Then I will start to introduce some HR based fartleks building to 3.5 to 4 hours volume over the following 4 weeks. After that - who knows???
I shall just keep going out there at least 3x a week. If it's not cooler and less humid at the weekend I probably won't get a long run again. This heat is pulling me down, I'm drenched just with walking let alone running. But we shall see!
Running club tonight. It is making me add another couple of runs in during the week, so that's good, but it still feels pressurised. Ah, well - must be good for me then!
Last week was not my best week of running. Too much mither Monday ended up running far too late in the evening. Wednesday had to cut run short but Friday was actually ok, even with the rain! Saturday parktrun, least said the better! Worst parktrun for a while.
Another week, another story! I have been running with my daughters and a friend working through C25K during the week, Parkrun and a longer run at weekend. They graduated about three weeks ago so now working on adding a few minutes each week. This week is 35 minutes. Daughter number two (22) had plans so wanted to run early, daughter number one (25) decided to join us so she could have early dinner! Early was meant to be between three and four heading out. Turned into ten past five! In the evening before you start to think we really committed! We normally run anything from half six to half eight depending on work. However friend was working and I didn't want to let her down so I didn't do my long run at weekend and decided to run twice Monday or at least try!
The run with my daughters was slow on my part, daughter number two was way a head but as we keeping to times not distance that was ok. 35 minutes 4:03km.
Then headed out with friend at seven, a different route. 35 minutes 4:8km. So all in all a better start to my running week.
Off to do some hill walking today.
Happy running 👟
Last week I wouldn't have run at all but I woke up on Saturday at 8.25 and just thought to myself - if I jump into my running gear and head out straight away I'll make it in time for parkrun. I'm so glad I did. As they time you I didn't need to wear my sweaty running belt, I left my water bottle at the start/finish point, and everyone around me was suffering the same from the blazing sun. It was good to see another couple of hundred locals were as mad as me, we all got so puffed out and glowy by the end. But it was so worth it. This week I'm aiming for at least one run again. I know it's not much but things are chocka block. I'm cycling loads at the moment though so it's not all bad news...
Since I came back into running (several times in the last 3 years) I have only done marathons and half marathons and I think I will give it a go and try a 10 K for the first time in the next year ( I need to find a race first in NI...).
The training to get a PB is pretty hard, so I want to make sure I get it right and not injure myself. For the moment I am writing this down here as a note for my memory (sort of a commitment) I will check it again in Autumn.
all the best
Marco
