I'm tapering/resting this week - waiting from my HM next Sunday. I will do a 30 minute run on Wednesday - mainly to sort out what socks I will wear!! :)

I'm hopefully going to get out 3 times this week for a 10k each time if my body is up to it, did 1 this morning and one Friday so will see how i feel after Wed's run or i might reintroduce the dreaded hill i have avoided the last few weeks on either Wed or Fri's run and do a shorter distance on that run.

I have a tough 10 mile race on Sunday but have not run at all for 19 days due to injury. Been saving myself for the big day but I do plan a little trot out at some point this week just to get a sense of whether I will be racing at all. Fingers firmly crossed that resting has done the trick.

I don't know your age or history but note you joined the forum in February this year, but l think that 3x 10ks in a week is quite a lot for a new runner to safely take on. Too much too soon only leads to injury. Be careful. I have been running for three years and still consider myself a newbie and realise that l was rash and over confident in the first few months after graduation from C25k, which probably led to my first injury.

This was for Stecal, not you, misswobble.

I have to agree with IannodaTruffe I have been running for 3 years and I don't think I have ever run 3 ten km in one week even when training for a HM. Rest is important as distance.

Last week was a mental nightmare. The heat and humidity in Berlin were formidable and even though my hr, pace and time looked pretty good, I felt awful and uninspired every day.

This week I have three runs of 7k, 7k and 10.5. Two are meant to be progression runs, and the longest an easy run. I will aim for two days each of arm, core and glute strength work.

Any mental tips oh seasoned Bridgers in coping with the heat?

Good and frequent hydration. See runningnearbeirut's post on the C25k forum.

Hi, yes, thanks, I hydrate as well as I can before and during. I think I'm doing okay, judging by the number of trees in my park I visit for discreet stops :-).

It is true that I might do better between running days, however I think the struggle is really mental. I literally cannot move or think when the humidity and heat are too great.

I had a look at my running log and see that I had a crisis at about the same time last year. Then I was newly graduated, and panicking that I would just give up. The solution I found was to return to intervals like those of c25k week 3 or 4.

It may be that I just need to back off on hot days, and get over myself :-).

I run in Sub-tropical Brisbane Queensland Australia - in summer, I always run before sunrise!! This of course limits me to runs of only up to an hour or so - long runs are out of the question as even the early evening is too hot/humid.

Hi Bazza1234 , sorry for the late reply. I read your reply and worked harder to leave the house at six in the morning, and it worked! Thanks!

I would just be doing 10k in a week with two shorter ones. ,if I was fit that is 😊

Hi all, I've been away and very busy for the last 10 days or so and that always plays havoc with my running. I take my kit with me but generally only get out for one run, which was what happened this time. The consequence is that I put on weight and lose fitness, then when I come back home I am blobby(er) and unwilling to bother.

However, I went out yesterday and managed 4k so will go again this week and try and build up again. It's a see-saw, this motivation lark! Seriously, though, I do better if I have an event on the horizon (I don't call them races :D ) so I need to find something to enter that is fairly local and will fit in with the next trip which is at the end of August.

My back's still causing me trouble, RFC. I keep thinking its better and then I get another twinge. Very frustrating, especially as my youngest daughter has decided she wants to learn to run and, more importantly, wants to run with me. She's 5'10" and superbly fit and flexible after years of ballet, so it will be a great speed work out for me as the titch of the family.

I haven't run for just over 2 weeks, firstly because of hip/knee pain, and deciding I need to rest, and secondly because I've been away to Glastonbury for a week. I'm back now, and my hip feels better (but I feel cautious and want to keep an eye on it) but now on top of that I have a post-Glastonbury lurgy in the form of painful sinuses and an annoying cough. I was off work yesterday and have dragged myself into work today - I feel it may be optimistic to consider a run tomorrow. A parkrun on Saturday feels optimistic too. Maybe I'll fit one run in this week - something leisurely around the 4k mark on Sunday, to see how I feel and work out what's possible next week. Commiserations to anyone else struggling to get their running on track too. Stuff just happens doesn't it! :o :( :o

Hello everyone,

I've not posted in this community before, but Hidden told me how friendly you all are, and so I thought I'd pop in and share with you that I've run 8kms today on the treadmill - on an incline of 2 (I meant to set it at 1, but somehow it went to 2). Anyway, I did it in 49 minutes and 35 seconds, and I really enjoyed it. I just wanted to share my excitement about it here!!!

I intended to do 5kms when I started the run - and I did that in 31 minutes 37 seconds. I found that after 22 minutes or so I felt really buzzing and happy, and I just felt like continuing.

I cooled off by walking another 0.5km to finish off. I did however look a really deep beetroot red colour after the run, and felt slightly nauseous for about 15 minutes after. I am wondering how normal that is, as I'm NOT experienced at running at all.

I think I would like to try to do a 10km sometime, and so I hope to pop into this forum whenever I am as excited about a run as I was today.

Lowcal :-)

Warning: lots of moaning ahead- proceed with caution:

Well, managed 2 x 5k runs this week, but now I'm on the IC :(

Last Saturday, I was coerced into gardening, and ended up moving a very heavy pot, which I thought would be very light- my back was not impressed.

Since then, I've been getting twinges of pain on the underside of my left heel. I did a run yesterday, and it was fine, but then half of the warm-down stretches were causing quite a lot of heel pain.

I think it's a slipped disc- I've had one before now, which needed surgery- after 2 different mis-diagnoses- as hamstring problems and muscular problems, I might add.(One private physio, one NHS GP)

GP was too busy to see me today <roll eyes>, so I spent 2.5 hrs waiting to see a clinician at the local "urgent" care centre. She thinks it's a muscular/tendon injury- didn't bother to exam my foot, though <more eye rolling>.

So, 2 weeks of rest &painkillers & NSAIDs. Then I'll be allowed to make an appointment to see a physio <even more eye-rolling>. Why not do the appointment now, I could always cancel if it improves? 2 weeks down the pan...

Well, I might be wrong, we shall eventually see. Rant over.

Ignore all of the above and have a great weekend. And keep away from gardens :)

Oh Martin, I am gutted for you , what a blow when you were doing so well and really getting stuck into your running :-(

Flippin' gardening , its got a lot to answer for , theres been a few on here that have put their backs out doing the same thing !

Fingers crossed that you will have a positive outcome xxx

I'm sure I will, and I know there are plenty here in worse positions. Just a bit frustrated.

Never mind, there's the Euros, Tour de France, all sorts of distractions on the IC. :)
