Hi everybody,

Please feel free to share your runs here and chat about how it's all going,

Sometimes we don't feel like putting a whole post up but just want to share something small, so this is a great place for doing that during the week.

If youre a lurker it is a great place to say a little hi without the pressure of a full post.

Wishing you all a happy and healthy week,

Juju and Realfoodieclub

It's a while since I have posted as I have been quietly getting on with steady running twice a week, 2 and a half years since starting C25K and with 75 parkruns under my belt. But in a moment of madness earlier this year I signed myself (aged 60+) and several other family members up for the Great South Run and we are now in the final 3 month count down.

So the runs have to go up from 2 to 3 a week. My plan is to keep 1 of them the parkrun, 1 of them a longer run gradually building duration and therefore distance, and 1 of them a shorter run variously tempo or speed interval work.

I have struggled with the standard GSR plans because they all seem to expect people to be or become faster than I am able to be. My parkrun PB is over 37 minutes and I think my realistic GSR target is 2 hours 20. Which means I need to find a lot of time to shuffle around over the next 3 months and need to build up the stamina for said shuffle.

My plan is built on some of the ideas in the Bupa set, which seems to recognise some people might need to have experienced running for more than 80 minutes prior to the event!

That's great but could you tell me what the great South run is?

It's an annual 10 mile race (this year on the 22nd October) in Portsmouth.

I was aiming to do a gentle practice 10km last night (I have a "5k or 10k" in a couple of weeks and a 10k mid-September so wanted to see where I was at as I've been building up fitness again having gone back to only doing 3 runs of 3-5k (including parkrun) per week since the London 10000 in May). Tried a lovely new route...which turned into a dead end. So ended up running 11.8km rather than the planned 10km as I had to go all the way back from my dead end!

But according to my Nike+ app it was the longest and furthest I've ever run and a new 10k PB so all in all very happy with that, even if my legs are not thanking me for it this morning!

I ran up behind two ladies and as I usually do, called out, 'Good morning!' so as not to surprise them. One of them turned around and said, 'Good heavens. I thought it was a dog.'

Charming.

Morning all from scorching Croatia when today's Celsius is expected to hit incredible 40 degrees. I've done three careful, slow, early morning runs this week with two more weeks to go :) It's not that bad actually for as long as you follow the obvious rules (drinking gallons of water is No1), follow the forum tips and take it easy. The loss of water when running is epic but physically it's all very do-able. At times l miss my local breezy London park but I suppose I will have plenty of time to enjoy it once I'm back ;)

Stay well :)

My first early morning run 🏃 today. Got up at 5.50 and thought ok this will either be a good idea or a very bad one. It was my best run yet...at one point I was running amongst wild rabbits at the river (I live beside the River Don) and then the sun came out. Did 5k, a PB, then home, showered, commute to work and at my desk before 8.30 feeling very smug with myself 😂

Had a mini holiday at the weekend and now feeling my mojo has been misplaced, put on a few pounds due to have let lose and had a slow but mindful run yesterday and had planned to run today but wasn't up for it. it's the first run I have missed in a long time.

Will be back on it with a long run on Sunday, now regretting not getting out there.

Have not been running as frequently as last year, but have a sprint triathlon coming up, completed a virtual ironman challenge over the whole of July with 2.4 miles of swimming, 112 miles of cycling and 26.2 miles of running over the whole month, this was a great motivation to make sure I got my runs in and did 2 runs of 5 miles and the rest around 3 , managed to get over 100% of all the distances which was great , and rediscovered I like running more than I sometimes remember, especially as I have a new bike and swimming has always been my best sport!
