Well after my little mini break I thought I would be raring to go but my energy is still in the gutter, but I do think it is getting a bit better as the pollen count has gone to high from very high. So I will just try and stuggle through. Happy healthy running to you all.

Oh flippin eck! Sorry to hear you feel under par 😕 is it any better if you run in the evening? Pollen wise that is?

I did the final run of my last race plan yesterday but now have a fresh one. A half marathon one! 😊 Can't wait to get cracking but will as it's a rest dy today.

I have a window anywhere between 11.30 and 2pm to run apart from that I have trouble fitting it in. I don't think in all the three years I have run I have done run in the evening. I think I might just have to try it one day just to see what it feels like. Good luck in your new plan.

I have no allergies so I don't know what you are going through, but it must be irritating to feel so tired all the time. Is it the allergies or the medication that makes you tired?

I find there's not as much pollen very early in the morning, RFC. It seems to get worse as the day progresses. Hope you're feeling 100% soon, m'dear

I'm redoing the programme yet again, this time with my daughter. Suspect she'll be leaving me for dust in a week or two and I can return to longer runs, but in the meantime, it's lovely to run with her and share her discovery of the joys of running. (My other daughter has just started the 30 Day Shred - not convinced I'm quite so keen to be involved in her fitness journey! 🏋🏋)

Thank you, trying hard not to complain, seems wrong when summer has finally arrived. That's lovely that your getting to do such fun things with your daughters, go one try a shred day, you might like it. (Hehe coming from someone who has never tried it).

AncientMumGraduate10 in reply to Realfoodieclub

I did do a few shred sessions back in the day, before my broken ankle, but don't fancy it in this heat -never say never though ;)

Sounds lovely. I can convince my 12-year old son to go with me now and then but my 9-year old daughter is not interested. But I think I make a good example now that I am thoroughly off the couch🏃🏃

Another good week! Managed to get out 4x because it was a bit cooler. My long run wasn't as long as I wanted at 7k, but by far my fastest (which explains why I ran out of puff!). I'm enjoying a burst of speed at the moment and am currently averaging under 7mins per km even on my longer runs - which is fast for me! I also achieved a PB of 32:34 for 5 k which I was very pleased with. It was the third PB over that distance in 10 days. Then there were PBs over 1, 2 and 3 k aswell last week - just about every time I go out something improves at the moment. I know it won't last, but I am enjoying it and it's very motivating. Mind you today I hit a wall and struggled round for half an hour in the muggy heat, only just managing 4K - brought me back to earth!

Happy running everybody!

This heat is hard for getting pb's and your right to ease off a bit, knowing the weather it won't be long till the conditions are more favourable, and then there will be no stopping you.

I normally run every other day, rain or shine, but I'm crying off this week - today is set to be 35C, with "real feel" 39....last year I went out in the blistering heat, I'm not doing it this year! I'm finding it hard though, got twitchy feet! Hoping for some cooler weather soon, but I'm not holding my breath....

Realfoodieclub profile image
RealfoodieclubGraduate10 in reply to Curlygurly2

Wow that sounds hot. We have a forecast of 35 today and if I can get someone to cover at home I'm hoping just to go for a walk, I think it's wise to bypass the running in that sort of heat. We've only got it for a couple of days it must be hard when you get "proper" summers.

Curlygurly2 profile image
Curlygurly2Graduate10 in reply to Realfoodieclub

Last year it was like that constantly for the whole of July and August, this year it's a bit more up and down. Of course, 35 in France is nowhere near as hot as 35 in England....don't ask me why!

My week is looking good. I have all the time in the world as I am on a relaxed summer vacation in a rented house near the beach with my husband and two kids. We walk a lot, and I run every other day ie 4 times this week. I might just try and go beyond 5k tomorrow. What if 6k is doable??

The weather is not like yours. I think the forecast says 19 degrees Celsius this afternoon, yesterday it was more like 15.

in reply to PippiRuns

Did you manage 6k? It's totally doable at the stage you're at, especially with comfortable 15 degree weather, sounds blissful :)

PippiRuns profile image
PippiRuns in reply to

It has gotten a lot warmer here, 25 degrees in the shade, so by the time I got to 5k I was very hot and called it a day. I could have done it though. Perhaps next time?

in reply to PippiRuns

It's cooled down to 25 here, a relief! But I'm still not running, maybe will tomorrow after the rain that's forecast...

I think wait til its cooler to do 6k, definitely right to call it a day if you feel too hot. But don't leave it too long, hold onto that impulse :)

PippiRuns profile image
PippiRuns in reply to

You are right. I need to push on beyond the 5k. I'm ready🏃🏃🏃

Sorry to hear youre struggling with the pollen and your energy levels Rfc, hope you feel better soon .

I did a 14k on Sunday on my HM plan. It felt okay, struggled in bits but just kept going and managed to complete it . I have a 10k planned for Wednesday/Thursday ( depending on the weather ) and then another 14k on Sunday. I really hope it has cooled down a bit by then :-)

I am really enjoying the plan this time , it seems to be working for me and I have kept injury free so far which is a bonus .

I cycled to work today which was ok at 6.20am this morning but cycling home at 4 is going to be a tad warm. No running for me yesterday as I managed to blister my toes last Saturday so I gave them Mondays run off to let them settle down so I can do my brick session on Thursday, in the heat!! Mad or what?

I'm on the IC :(

It's been coming for weeks. I took three weeks off running a few weeks ago to see if my niggle would sort itself out, but still did a bit of rowing machine and walking, but after trying to run again I had to admit defeat and have been spending inordinate amounts of money with a sports physio.

My problem is at the top of my left leg. It feels hip and groin related, but the physio assures me it's my knotted muscles which she attacks once a week and leaves me battered, bruised and financially abused. I whined and asked how long it might take to sort itself out, and she cannot be specific as she doesn't know if it's just knots or proper scarring of the muscles. No sign of improvement yet - weight bearing is not good (I am like a little old lady for the first half an hour each day and if I've been sitting down for any length of time) and even though she told me I could try a little run (like 0.5k) if I felt up to it, I just know that's not possible at the moment.

I'm resigned to the fact that I may be out of the game for a few months, but if that's what it takes I'll just have to be big and brave and wait. It helps that it's too flippin hot to run at the moment.

This is my first proper injury, and I've absolutely no idea how it happened as I've been running for 2 years and hadn't done anything new or increased my distance or anything like that.

Oh well, that's life I guess.

Realfoodieclub profile image
RealfoodieclubGraduate10 in reply to useitorloseit

Sorry to hear your on the IC, knotted muscles sounds like a easier one to get over but painful while in session. While I was out with a frozen shoulder last year I took to speed walking, are you allowed to do anything like that. I was told it's less jarring on the muscles but I got up to quite a pace and even got out of breath with it with my physio still being happy. Good luck and keep us informed.

useitorloseit profile image
useitorloseit in reply to Realfoodieclub

I can walk, but if I 'push on' it definitely exacerbates the pain, so at the moment I'm doing nothing except a bit of hula hooping! I've gone back to 5:2 fasting to try and stop the pounds from piling on, but it's hard when it's rose wine season and the evenings are long and warm!

Sorry you're struggling, Rfc. Do you take anything for the pollen?

I went to beginners' running club last night. It was 31.5C. I did not complete the entire run because I was melting. However, it is spurring me on to do more - I just need to wait for slightly cooler weather! I find it so difficult to run when it's hot.

Other than that, I've started cycling, so my bum hurts :D I've only done two sessions, but I can (just about) balance, so will try pedaling next time - possibly! I'm being a bit careful because I am aware that if I fall off and break something it will scupper my running. I hope it will increase my general fitness though.

RealfoodieclubGraduate10 in reply to Anniemurph

My doc prescribes beconase nasal spray. I have to take it all year round because of the pollution in london but I take double dose when the pollen is high.

Hehe I remember cycling bum when I was training for my triathlon. No matter what I did I still seemed get it. I even bought a padded saddle. Padded shorts helped the best. Good luck.

I haven't run at all this week, everything's going slower than normal, and London heat feels particularly grim. Although I have been cycling, a bit more than usual if anything, so much more comfortable than being squashed on the central line...

Realfoodieclub profile image
RealfoodieclubGraduate10 in reply to

I went out for a run this afternoon in london, after 2km I gave up running and changed to walking, three nights no proper sleep, hay fever and I had nothing in the bank for this heat. I saw people on their bikes as I trudged home and I did think that looked more comfortable than I was trying.

in reply to Realfoodieclub

I've also got something that may be hay fever or may be the last dregs of the lurgy I picked up at Glastonbury, ironically a hot water bottle on my chest stops the night-long wheezes at the moment... I'm with you on the lack of sleep and general sneezing, not much fun. I think you did well with 2k in this heat, and did well to know when to stop too. Cycling's definitely worth looking into, but at a leisurely speed not really going for it like I've seen some people doing!

Anything is better than being squashed on the Central Line.....that is something I don't miss when I'm between jobs....

in reply to folkieboater

The train I got this morning had cold air blasting from the vents - it was great - I thought wow they've got it sorted! Then this afternoon's greenhouse effect coming home proved I was on a weird train this morning, the standard thing is they blast you with heat actually, it was super super grim, I came out into 31 degrees feeling like I was getting a refreshing breeze :o :(

20 min run indoors on the treadmill today, air con and not so much pollen the run felt so much better. My new shoes felt great and I am sure they are going to help with the foot pain I have been having. It felt really good to have a positive run even though it was still quite short, I did a weight session afterwards, then a 20 Len swim and then a great stretch session in the steam room. I've been doing this for the last 7 weeks and it really seems to suit me. My upper body is toning up. Thankfully the run is getting better, finger crossed it stays that way.
