I thought if I repin a new post every month then that gives people time to repeat weeks if necessary and for people like me get the guts to start.
This is perfect for me but I will have to take it steady. I got signed off from physio this week from my frozen shoulder but he says I really have to do some work on my muscle tone as I have a little bit of muscle aptrohpy. So at the moment I do wall push ups. I might start this Challange with them and then move on with the proper ones after completing it once. It's all working towards the same thing. As with c25k, slow and steady.
Thanks for putting up the pinned post, RFC. Just thought it might be a good idea to have the link from Bazza's post in the body. That way we can all find it easily if we lose it, and anyone who didn't read the original post can find out how it's meant to work.
Yes I'm in please. I asked a gym instructor yesterday to show me how to do one properly and I (ahem) couldn't do even one! Bit embarrassing. Anyway, he made me do some on benches and then reduced the height but I couldn't quite get to the floor!
I haven't done the test yet but I think I know where I'll be! I can only get better!
Find a suitable height you can start with. I can manage using a table - which is about hip height on me - but have no chance with a chair, let alone a bench!!!
Mind you , it is very difficult with two pugs thinking this is a new game . I had one trying to climb on my back and the other one licking my face ha ha xxx
I'm sort of doing this - only I'm combining it with my upper body strength routine that one of the trainers down at the local gym worked out for me. It has press ups in it - 3 sets of 12 from an exercise ball. She took one look at me and decided I couldn't do them from the floor
I started my routine a few months ago but let it slip. I did it again this morning and my muscles - ha! - are quivering as I type this, so if I can do it three times a week again, and increase from the pathetic little 1kg weights up to the 3kgs she set me, things should improve! I will also be able to shift from my middle on the exercise ball to my feet on the exercise ball... eventually!
Yes, I'm in. Will start tomorrow after needing a rest day today after my "trial" yesterday!
Going for the alternative version against a table and will see how I progress from week to week and decide whether to go onwards through the programme or repeat and go downwards and aim to use a chair next ...
My glutes are also telling me that I did a trial for the lunges as well yesterday...
I was trying to find an online pic ( to post here) of my plastic pushup support thingies - so I Googled pushup supports !! I got the pics that I wanted - and some others that I didn't !!
Yes, I will do this Bazza. I have been told by my love that push up will not help my tummy. I have to do sit up. So I did seven today. I will try to increase by 5 every day. 5 more sit up, 5 more wall push up. I will get there
Thanks Bazza and RFC, both hubby (allegedly) and I are going to have a go. Doubt very much I'll be doing the proper ones. Maybe the knee version, or maybe the wall, don't know yet because I haven't done the assessment thingy yet. Watch this space xπ¬
I don't think there is any right or wrong here - there is an argument that working over the full "range of motion" is good, but then again doing your p'ups in the traditional "plank" position will work your abs more than the knee pressup would.
I have rather less experience of this type of exercise but I can't see how it can be a bad thing for you to do.
Why not give it a go and see how you get on - if it's hard then you know it's doing you good!
W1D3 for me today. Managed column 3 with 15 in the final set, so I guess I move on to W2 on Saturday. By this time next week I should be doing a final set of 20, which I find very hard to believe, but who knows...
did w1d2 column 1 today. 3, 4, 2, 3, 8! Had about 90 seconds between sets. I struggled with the last set of 8 and just couldn't quite straighten my arms for 9. It's gotta be good for running doing planks without realising it.
Failed W1D2 AGAIN!! I think that I will move back to the first column. I DID do 6 full pushups for the trial - but that sixth one was "close!!" . So, I will drop back as though I had only done 5 in the trial. I sure have lost a lot of upper body strength in my advancing years - I used to be a strong little bugger once!!
Thank you. Official start is 9am but I think there are a few thousand of us so by the time my back pen gets to the front probably more like the same time as you. Just hope they take that into consideration when the reopen the roads with their 1:45 cut off time π. Best of luck to you both too. X.
I start W2 tomorrow so i guess I'm in if there is a dedicated community for it. Looking ahead a few weeks, I'm going to need all the support I can get pretty soon!
Great idea, thank you so much for sorting this out, the more healthunlocked can help people get fit and active the better. I'm joining but will start the Challange next week after my 10km on Sunday.
Well Bazza, I am still hanging in there. Can do two lots of wall push ups. I am also doing sit ups. 12 today. Proud of myself.
Update : I am doing "table push ups". After reading about knee push ups being bad for push ups, I looked up bench push ups where you eventually lower it to floor push ups. I don't have a bench but the dining table is perfect, then I will move to the coffee table.......
I am with you on the knee push ups, I am doing stair ones As it keeps you more in the plank position and just a step up from the wall push ups my physio gave me. I have joined the push yourself forum as well if your interested.
