For those of you who were here last week, welcome back for Week 2 and thank you for your participation so far, it was so good to see so many of you joining in with some great Quests .

For anyone just arriving , well, welcome ! it’s not too late to join in ! 😊

★ Here is a link to last weeks post and comments.

healthunlocked.com/bridgeto...

And here’s a quick reminder as to what it's all about.

What is the Quest

The aim of the Quest is to help you find a focus or goal that you would like to achieve by the end of the Quest period.

The Quest takes one calendar month. You can join at any point during that time.

Some popular goals are:

To run three times a week

To slowly increase distance

To train for a specific race

To add Stretch and Strength exercises to your weekly routine

This is a personal challenge, so it's completely up to you! If you want to join, all you have to do is COMMENT BELOW with something like:

I would like to join the Quest, or, count me in! I want to ..............

Every week I will put up a new post and we can all chat about how we are doing.

so for those that were here last week

★ How has it been going ?

are you on track, or racing ahead or maybe you have decided to change your goals or had a few hiccups ?

just reply to the post and let us know !

My own Quest for the month was, and still is to get over recent niggles with more stretching and strength exercises to enable me to run more frequently again (Work permitting) and hopefully stay off the injury couch and start increasing the distance again.

Well i have been able to make a start ! The niggles have mostly been better , at least to the point where i felt i could run.

i was lucky enough to have an unexpected day off on Thursday and i managed to get out for my first run for 12 days.

i have also made a start with some Yoga ! Yes, Yoga !

i have never tried it before and i have found a decent free app with a months beginners course which i will try to do a minimum of 3 times per week ! i did the first session on Saturday and another on Sunday, i think most of my niggles have been through stiffening up between runs as i have not really done any other exercise and my runs have been infrequent, so its time i put that right ! fingers crossed 🤞

So there we are.

Please join in, i look forward to hearing all about your goals !

Good luck, Ian.

Hello I57, pleased to report it's going well. I ran three times last week as planned AND did the Parkrun. Didn't even have to wake at 7.30, slept in until 8 and still managed to be there on time 😁Now that the mornings can be so dark and gloomy it's a bit of a disincentive to get out and run, but if the sun's shining it's so precious, I have to get out there.

That's great ! Well done !

Good to hear you are on track 😁👍

Your right about the weather !

Well... let me see...

- try to do 3 runs per week (2x 5K + 1x long run)

- build up my long run to 12 - 14 - 16,1K to reach ten miles in 3 weeks

- run in my new running shoes (instead of using them permanently)

Hello instructor57, thanks for hosting us in November. I’m a bit late to the party but I’m still out running.

Having worked up to the Great South Run in October, I’ve been taking it a bit easier since. In November I’m going to mix things up a bit and maybe do some different locations and some interval sessions. parkrun will feature every week and maybe I can get back to pre-pandemic running times.

Happy questing everyone

Hello and welcome!Well done with the GSR 👍

I don't blame you taking a bit easier 😁

Your plan to mix things up a bit sounds great ! As they say , 'Variety is the spice of life' and new locations are always fun !

Enjoy 😁

Welcome to yoga! Would be interested in hearing more about which app you are using. I am happy with the week - I had 'the weekend off' (Friday/Saturday) Friday being a very busy day but otherwise I have done something every day. My main problem is the WiFi in my yoga studio (aka bathroom!), you don't want to be wondering all the time whether the class is buffering or you really are still supposed to be holding the post but I have to say... you know you are in a bad way when a gentle restorative session is that painful and uncomfortable!

And I got my run in with an added bonus - someone had put seed out on the drystone wall at the entrance to the woods so I had some nice bird and squirrel watching before I started my warm up walk. (We shall gloss over the fact that a walk in the middle of my run as I took a phone call did not appear to make my average pace any slower!)

Instructor57 profile image
Instructor57Graduate10 in reply to GoogleMe

Oooh a yoga studio ! Nice one 🤣I might need to find somewhere else to do it as my cat Misty always wants to play on my mat and walk all over me! 🐱

Good that you also got your run in as well👍

I enclose a picture of the app !

It's a real beginner one 😁

Another reason for choosing my bathroom, although sometimes it is handy to have a cat checking the height of your bridge. Thanks for the app lead - I shall always be a beginner! (And proud of it, isn't there a Buddhist meditation concept of 'beginner's mind'?)

I’m halfway into the training plan with Garmin and Coach McMillan and it’s getting really interesting now. And fun! Such a variety of different runs, the ‘magic mile’ time trial was truly exhilarating! I enjoyed that.

Next week, I have hill repeats scheduled. Have to find a suitable hill. 🙂

Instructor57 profile image
Instructor57Graduate10 in reply to Ian5K

Glad your enjoying the Garmin plan !I may have a look at them when I'm back to where I was !

Hope the go faster tights are working ? 👏

Oooh, hills ....... I know I should 🙄

Ian5K profile image
Ian5KGraduate10 in reply to Instructor57

I’ve yet to wear the tights. It hasn’t been that cold here, still comfortable in t-shirt and shorts!

Only realised after taking the plan up that one of the 3 Garmin coach choices is Mr. Jeffing Jeff Galloway! If all goes well, I may take him up on the HM plan next. 🙂

Hi Instructor57 and fellow Questers 😊 Pleased to report a good week, still meeting my targets.

2 runs completed.

2 P. E. With Joe Wicks sessions completed (including todays)

Daily YWA yoga sessions completed and enjoyed. Doing the November calender Nourish which has been great so far. Really excited to see you have begun yoga sessions Instructor57, I feel sure you will benefit from the stretches and movement and breathing techniques. It's a full body experience Adriene tells us.🧘‍♂️🧘‍♀️🙏

Next week's runs I'm hoping to add a little more distance by starting further away, I know I have trouble adding it at the end of my route😏. It's a neat trick😉 I will earn that 5k badge on Strava by the end of the month!

Already failed to stick to 'just one glass' of wine, but hoping to keep 'wine with dinner' evenings to a minimum and that one glass only rule if possible😁

Let's hope for more dry days this month and good luck with our Questing!🤞🍁🍁🍁xxx

Well done on meeting your targets !I'm impressed with the Joe wicks AND YWA + your 2 runs 👏👏👏 😁👍

And yes, I think the yoga will certainly help me .

I like the trick of starting your runs further away !

And oersonally I think you deserve the wine 😬

"More of the same" continues. 45km of running last week. The planned Virtual HUHM next Sunday morning.

I've been advised by a consultant not to do anything (eg. yoga) that would increase my flexibility beyond its current state. Building strength, however, is good as that helps keep the joints secure.

Instructor57 profile image
Instructor57Graduate10 in reply to nowster

Well done with your mileage again and I'm sure you'll smash the HUHM .Do I remember you mentioning previously that you had Joint hypermobility ?

nowster profile image
nowsterGraduate10 in reply to Instructor57

Yes, I do. It's mild Ehlers-Danloss Hypermobility Syndrome. My sister has it more than I do. It came down through the female line of the family. For instance, most of Mum's uncles on her mother's side had flat feet.

Ahh, I thought I'd remembered it from somewhere 👍

Hi fellow runners 👋Well Using pleased with how it's fine one three first week and at least I've remembered to reply 😂

Two runs done

I tried out the post C25K "speed" podcast for the first one. I didn't enjoy it but I did it so that's the main thing!

The second was on Sunday a 10k to consolidate and it turned out to be a PB for me so that was a surprise.

Daily Pilates it's going well.

Welcome to yoga I'm sure you'll find it'll help, I've been doing it for about 11 years. I know it helps a lot with flexibility but also with dealing with stress as a result of breathing techniques I've learnt in that time.

Instructor57 profile image
Instructor57Graduate10 in reply to dijep

Excellent, sounds like everything is going to plan .I also did not enjoy the 'Speed' podcast when I tried it .

And yes, I'm sure the yoga will help me .

Oh, you must be an expert after 11 years! and if it helps with stress that will be an added bonus ! 😁

GailXrunning profile image

Woo-hoo! Well done, newbie yogi! I look forward to hearing more of that journey and really hope that it helps keep you ‘oiled’.🧘🏻‍♂️

My NRC training plan progress slowed. Last week I managed to squeeze in two runs before our guest arrived. One was a tempo run (I think I might already have mentioned this one last week). The second had to be a bit of off-plan improvisation - just a basic 30-minute run to keep me ticking over; I didn’t have time for the long run and I didn’t want to add another speed session so quickly after the tempo. So, I just made up my own addition: a ‘filler’. A nice long walk, which could include the guest, subbed for what would have been my third run. Still, I’m pleased I did what I did; and that I adapted to circumstances. Now, I’ll be back on track. Tomorrow will be the speed session and, hopefully, I’ll have scope to do the long 8-mile run on Friday.

Instructor57 profile image
Instructor57Graduate10 in reply to GailXrunning

Haha, yes it's very early days with the yoga but fingers crossed 🤞Nothing wrong with an improvised filler when necessary ! Well done !

As you say , you adapted to circumstances and then as you say , back on track. Enjoy the speed session tomorrow and the long run on Friday 👍

All going well with my plan. I’m in my final week of a 5-week 10k consolidation plan and on my schedule for this week is:

- a hill sprints run (my first ever)

- a relaxed 4K running my town

- a 10k on the weekend

That’s my plan! And then I’ll have to decide what comes after ! 😳😀

Loved the hill sprints this morning! How did yours go!

GailXrunning profile image
GailXrunning in reply to CBDB

Great to hear. I had to do three speeds, 6/10, 7-8/10, 9/10 for 60s, 45s, 30s respectively (x3). I slumped a bit in the second cycle, and in every cycle ran my middle pace faster than my fast pace. So, not exactly under control! It was a beautiful morning, which I loved. I also like doing the really short intervals. I found it harder than I have with other interval runs to recover my HR between sprints.

Hello @Instructor57 hope you're well. good luck with the yoga. Sounds like fun. So far I am on track during my 1st week:- managed to run twice

-still on track to increase distance using Ju Ju's magic plan (ran another 8km on thursday)

- have run at one parkrun (aiming for another different 2 this month together with volunteering at one)

- managed to cross train once

- still on track to run my 1st 10k on 21st November

- getting almost 7+ hours sleep every night

Hi Instructor. 😀 My Quest of regular running has been going oh so badly! This has been my least consistent spell of running and yoga since I started in 2018.

This week I’ve had a horrible cold and haven’t run since Thursday, although I hope to get out for a little one on Wednesday morning. I’m doing lots of grandson ferrying duties and Mr Cheeky’s incident in August threw everything for a loop (although he’s fine now) 🙏🏻 My yoga is hit and miss at best. I’m seriously hoping I can settle into a proper routine again before long. I’ve been saying that for weeks!

So, the GSR last month, then nothing longer than 7k since, usually less, isn’t great buildup for the HUHM this Sunday is it? 🙄 I’ll be Jeffing the whole distance for the first time. Who knows how that will go?! Let’s see. Wish me luck! 😳

Instructor57 profile image
Instructor57Graduate10 in reply to cheekychipmunks

Hello !Oh dear sounds like my recent past! a couple of months ago I was running 14k now down to 3.5 or 5k twice a week if lucky !

My least consistent since starting C25k .

My last run was Thursday also, however I will be out in about an hour's time this morning! At least then it will have been twice in a week!

And the yoga is new to me and hopefully do some more today!

Hope your cold is better!

I'm sure you will get back into your routine when you can 🙏

Well done with the GSR ! And it's great that you wil do the HUHM on Sunday , if it's jeffing then so be it , at least you will do it and of course good luck ! 😁

cheekychipmunks profile image
cheekychipmunksGraduate10 in reply to Instructor57

Aww thanks for the kind words. I’d planned to Jeff the HM anyway just as an experiment. I’ve always been a “run at all costs” type of person, but I was curious to see how it worked. Little did I realise it would be a necessity this time round! But yes, I’ll do it and it’ll make the HM fun (and manageable! 😅)

We can get back to where we were can’t we? Good luck with your yoga. It’s great fun and I credit my “ease” of running with the fact that my joints are stronger and more flexible. 🧘‍♀️

I'm afraid i didn't manage to run twice last week as per my quest. I was planning a long run on Sunday but forgot that I was getting my vaccine booster so that threw me off kilter.

I got flu in one arm and Moderna in the other. Yesterday i mostly slept - it completely floored me. Shall try a short one tomorrow and aim to get another long one in later in the week.

Instructor57 profile image
Instructor57Graduate10 in reply to Fionamags

Never mind , we all get thrown off track occasionally !I did a 5k this morning before my booster at lunch time !😁

So will see how I feel the next few days 🤔

Fionamags profile image
FionamagsGraduate10 in reply to Instructor57

Good planning - that's what I should have done. You might be fine after your booster - i felt nothing after my first two jabs. Seems pretty variable. Lucky we have the option though!

FurtherFaster profile image
FurtherFasterGraduate10

My November goal is all about consistency, with the overarching goal of running 4 runs per week, 1 of which being a relaxed 10K.

Well, best laid plans and all that...

2 runs down last week and then got hit my a nasty cold which took me out of running from Thursday - Sunday.

So managed 2 last week (5K and 4K), and then had to skip the 10K and the other 4K.

Not to worry though as I have been back on it from Monday, completing a 4K.

Today's 5K was completed, though my Garmin couldn't connect to GSP for some reason and so rudely reported 4K instead! Thankfully I had NRC on at the same time and knew the route well so stuck to a real 5K instead of pushing further.

I suppose learning to adapt around all these moments is the true objective of learning consistency. Easy to be consistent when everything is calm, the challenge is staying on track when things get rescheduled and messed up.

Will be keeping the remainder of my runs very relaxed this week, even though I'm feeling much better.

Instructor57 profile image
Instructor57Graduate10 in reply to FurtherFaster

Oh, consistency !The elusive element of our running plans 😁

4 runs including a relaxed 10k sounds ideal.

Shame the cold got in the way !

And yes, as you say it's easy (or easier) when all is calm 😁

I'm sure you will get back on track when ready but I think wise to keep them relaxed this week.

No point pushing if under the weather 👍

Glad yours is going well... I signed up then very next day woke with throat on fire and spent the week poorly 😫 Got out on Sunday and kick started it again and pleased to report this week have already run twice and completed 1 yoga with Adrienne and 1 Joe Wicks work out! Phew! I know I'm a week out reporting but it has been a mad week!
