Hi, I take Barleygrass, which has vitamins and minerals naturally in it, and it’s a great alkaliser. I also take vit K2 and D3. I found Calcium carbonate very hard on the stomach so I take a plant based calcium which is much easier to digest. I take a fish oil also. I think it depends on what weight you are and how your body reacts to supplements on how much you take. Hope your Mum feels better soon
You can get Lifestream Barleygrass on Amazon. Because it is alkalising and has minerals as well as vitamins it’s good for bones. You can see everything that’s in it if you look online. I’m 73 and have been taking it for a month. My sister is 82 and has taken it for years. I started taking it because the osteoporosis drug I take was giving me an acidic stomach. This has stopped since taking the barleygrass. I try to take as much food based calcium as I can then just top up with a calcium supplement.
Hi. I’m relatively new to this (and only have osteopaenia) And am taking:-
d3
k2 mk7
boron 3mg
Magnesium glycinate 2x250 capsules
I take d3 and k2 at the same time
I would suggest running the new vits and minerals by your GP to make sure nothing conflicts with your mum’s existing medications.
Where has your mum fractured? If it is ribs then ibuprofen only would be about right. Again her existing meds might come into play as to what can and can’t be given.
Can you both look at her overall diet as calcium is better when taken through real food rather than a supplement. It may be that she is getting enough through diet and too much is a bad thing as it can get deposited in areas others than the bones. (After a non-frail hip fracture I was given calcium and d3 in one tablet twice a day as a matter of course. The only problem was this was adding a 1200mg of calcium to my already daily calcium-rich diet! I stopped those pdq.) Everyone is different so there’s not a one dose is right for everyone just guidelines. Again looking at diet have you seen the blood sugar diet championed by Michael Mosley, aimed at helping T2 diabetes patients? It’s basically reducing refined white carbs and there is a very good supportive forum. (I’m no doctor and am just picking up info where I can but find this and the BSD forum helpful).
If your mum is able to do some load bearing exercise this will help.
Vitamin D3..1000 mg daily...as much natural sunshine that is available, in winter months. Also a shot for osteoporosis has been quite successful..its called Prolia. It is administered every 6 months. If possible strength training is good..helps the bones become stronger..
