Need help with Vitamins

Dear Ladies..

So confused about vitamins. As my next visit to my Doctor will be only in August, I would like to understand more deeply the topic Vitamins before I go.

As per my understand, reading all the excelent posts here everyday, I see that most of you take vitamins and supplements such as: vitamin D, K2, Mg, strontium citrate, and others . However my doctor never talked about any of then ( unfortunatly). So I would like to meet her( my doctor) in August, with some more knowldge about this topic.

It is confused for me to conprehend whem ( what time of the day) shall I take it, the dosis of each one , if it is better to buy online or at the pahrmacies and so on.

Does anyone here could give me a synthesis of it? Is there any video at ROS about these vitamins or suplements?

Thanks a lot onde more...

Hi Verauk. I agree that all the recommendations for nutrition can be bewildering!I was lucky that my doctor gave me a whole range of blood tests when I first saw her with my DEXA results. As we have such horrible, wet dark winters in the UK, I have been taking vit D for a few years, and my results showed my level to be optimal. I don't take any other supplements as I try to eat a good diet. My blood tests were all good apart from finding out that my cholesterol is high. My husband loves butter, cream etc and has low cholesterol whereas I follow a Mediterranean diet, there's no justice! 😉 This has made me a bit wary over eating cheese, but I've introduced Kefir to my diet as it's supposed to promote healthy gut biome. I decided to do this as it's a good source of calcium and hopefully will help with any possible effects of taking bisphosonates.

The vit D supplement I take is from Hey Nutrition and it's vit D3 with K2 as this is supposed to help direct it to the bones. I'm not really a breakfast fan, but I now have a handful of prunes, walnuts, apple juice and the vit d supplement. Interesting mix, but it suits me. Nice to chat with you again.

Unless your doctor is dual trained in nutrition, a few are, I think you would be better advised to get a personalised eating plan from a nutritionist.

The basic nutritional needs to support bones are listed on the ROS site and which foods contain which micro nutrients but as all our needs will vary and how we metabolise our foods with certain medications interfering with absorption, it’s really difficult to generalise therefore you really do need an individual plan.

Eat the Rainbow - include green leafy veg every day, fish x 2 weekly, pulses and whole grains every day, seeds & nuts, fermented dairy - kefir, yogurt, cheese, prunes (according to bone expert at least 7/day but I can only manage 2).

Although I get as much as I can from healthy eating, I do take a specialised bone supplement +400iu Vitamin D - with VitK2, 1000mg Vitamin C, Vitamin B complex, CoQ10, Reserveratrol & Zinc.

CDreamer thanks for your answer. I have a healthy nutrition and I take most of the foods you indicated such as kephir, fish, beans every day , green leafs 2 times, etc... I started a calcium fron sea algaes with a little D vitam, K2 and Mg. I think I may increase the dosis based on what you've indicated. Reserveratrol I'm not familiar it, but I will google it. Thanks a lot!!!!

Another question. My daughther use to buy vitamin at Rolland&Barret. Have you ever bought from them?

Ideally you should ask for a blood test for yr current D3 levels
