How's your concentration since your loss?

I noticed mine was very poor for a long time, couldn't seem to concentrate on anything much, from reading, tv or even speaking at times.

Anyone else had this problem?

I`m like that all the time I can be watching tv or trying to read and I realise it`s not registering it`s difficult to regain that focus if you don`t realise it`s happening quick or you have multiple loss over a period of time.

I know exactly what you mean Kenny kenster1

It can be a real pain at times, I can understand now why I used to read paragraphs of a book and then not be able to recall one line of it!

Hi Chloe,I've definitely noticed this in my real life. I've noticed that I've fully thrown myself on here (unfortunately at the expense of being wholeheartedly with my husband). I just now realized that I'm wondering if it has to do with escaping the pain of losing my mom? Any thoughts?

Hi @Norw,

In my personal opinion it is possible if you feel you blocked out the loss of your Mom, or for various reasons, you weren't able to grieve in your own way.

Lack of concentration, can of course, be due to a number of reasons, lack of sleep, worries, depression to name a few, and lack of concentration can also be due to grief unsurprisingly, as I've discovered!

Before my daughter died two years ago, I used to paint watercolors. I haven’t been able to do that since. It’s one of the many ways I’ve lost concentration and focus. There are times I’m forced to watch reruns of a mindless tv show because I can’t follow the storyline.

Hi LilyAnnepuppy

That's a real shame you must be talented, I actually bought water colour pencils (not painting) to try and focus, and it worked for a while. Strangely enough, I was thinking of trying again, maybe you can too, I do hope so, maybe limit your time initially and see how you feel<3

I hope you’ll take it up again. I stopped most things when my daughter died. I think some of it was thorough guilt as in I shouldn’t be enjoying myself.

A few months after she died I took my son to New York on a shopping trip. I needed to try to bring some sort of normality into his life We went with a friend & two of her children. All three were in their late teens. I could not bring myself to buy one thing for me despite the encouragement from my friend. Just couldn’t do it. Bought loads for my son though & we had a nice time.

It takes time x

Absolutely has Chloe. Find it really embarrassing when someone is talking to me & I completely loose concentration. Then have no idea what they are talking about & how to reply.

Films I can completely loose myself in if I’m at the cinema. Books mostly now but not at the beginning. Tv nope. But it’s conversation that’s the worst. I’ve taken to pinching myself to stay alert.

You said it Caza

It is the the conversation that's the worst of all! I just forget words and just stop, it's horrendous, I don't have this problem typing online which is very weird.

Try the pinching method 😉

I didn't want to do much that required concentration. I couldn't think straight for ages.

That's certainly understandable Sandradsn
