I went to bereavement counselling and had a bad experience.i was left outside in the rain at a busy bus stop in tears and never went back.that was 16 years ago and only now ive felt able to try again with a trauma doctor instead.

yeah bereavement is all about your emotions the trauma is all about the incident that occurred so in time it might make me live with it better.who knows though what happened was horrific so I might never manage.

I hope you don't mind I've just read you profile. You have suffered greatly big time. I'm so so sorry for the loss of your precious son I cannot begin to even try and imagine how you must be feeling and what your going through I thought its bad enough to lose my mum the way I have was bad but to lose your own child is beyond anything I could say. Your so strong and brave probably more than you give yourself credit for its going to take a very long long time for you to absorb any of your trauma and loss you're going through I bet your beside yourself I know I would be. Just keep doing what your doing take it day by day babes and I'm sending you a huge {{hug}} thank you so much for sharing your experience keep at it though in time it will ease you but only when your ready xxx kenster1

I had bereavement counseling from a licensed U.S. social worker for about a year. It helped, mostly because someone was listening to me. However, after a while the social worker digressed into telling me the full academic qualifications of her uncle and the exact route of his car trip across the U.S. At that point I terminated our relationship. I look at info about Cruse Bereavement on the Internet. I seems like some sort of business venture to me. These are just personal views, not meant to influence you.

I lost my mum suddenly last June after being her full time carer for two years. I had to pack up all her things and move house as I lived with her and found her loss unbearable. I signed up to Cruze bereavement counselling in September 2016 and am still waiting for an appointment as they are so over busy! I also went to psychic, something I'd never normally do, to see if it offered some hope but personally found none. But the last week or so is the first time I've started to feel the ever present cloud of grief lift a bit, I've laughed naturally without immediately feeling guilty or being all consumed with loss. I think counselling is really valuable if you have the right counsellor. And sadly sometimes you have to pay for good counselling, mind offer subsidised counselling too. Love to all going through loss xx

Thank you so much for sharing so sorry for your loss I know how it feels to lose your mum I lost mine 10 years ago and I still pine for her and I'm still grieving too because I tried to avoid grieving as I had my daughter and step dad to be strong for so it was a few years after that grief caught up with me I had no choice it took me off my feet I agree some counsellor are worth it but some r expensive sending you hugs Kelly55

Thanks Nat. I hope you are managing your grief and have all the support you need. Think we all need different support and different ways of coping. I drank too much and withdrew but now the sun is coming out and the increased light and spring has brought new hope! But having two excellent friends for support made a huge difference ! Best wishes x

You are absolutely right Kelly55 it is about having the right Counsellor but we assume that having been trained, they would have the qualities to carry out Bereavement Counselling with compassion.

Hi Chloe, yeah you hope they will be able to but I think individual personalities need to gel too. I've seen a counsellor twice before, once years ago about some family issues and counsellor was really good. Then I saw one whilst my mum was alive as I was struggling with being her full time carer etc and I found it an utter waste of time tbh! But I didn't feel a rapport with her and so knew from the off it wouldn't work. They need to be trained, compassionate and someone you can get along with / talk to ! Not always an easy task to find!

I do know that Counsellors realise that sometimes they just don't gel with a client and transfer them to another Counsellor. I'm surprised to hear that so many seem dissatisfied though. Thank you for sharing, it's always good to hear others views.

Cruse was new to my area when I was bereaved, but I found it a positive experience. The counsellor came to me. I'm talking 26 years ago, so things may have changed.

I thought it was great too. Really relate to it and feel like I'm finally getting past the floating stage!

Other friends who've suffered loss also said it's accurate and the waves description is so true x

Good thing about cruse is its all volunteers who deal with you but it takes a whike to get on because they are so good at what they do but its totally worth it my experience with them was a good one too

I have been receiving counselling from the Hospice and it has been a great help to me. I think I would have cracked up ages ago without it.
