Went to ER for asthma exacerbation, tested positive for Omicron and some pneumonia on X-ray

Not the way I thought my Thursday was going to go. I’d already had a negative COVID test 2 days before. Now I have COVID, asthma exacerbation and pneumonia. They sent me home after IV steroids, IV magnesium and a RX for antibiotics. Not a lot of details about what to do or expect. I am vaccinated and boosted and got COVID anyway.

I am pretty miserable- cough, SOB, tired and I think jittery from lots of prednisone. They say Omicron is mild- but, my asthma is triggered by viruses, so how will that be. I’m nervous. How have others done with Omicron and asthma?

Poor you! Take each day and rest…don’t push yourself when you do start feeling better but don’t be afraid to keep ringing your GP if you feel you need to…. Last year I had a nasty respiratory ‘virus’ for four weeks and tested negative 4 times and tested negative on pcr tests but felt dreadful and asthma just exacerbated my symptoms….you will get better but allow your body to go through this and eventually heal 🤞…take care x

So sorry to hear. That must be very scary for you. I can’t speak for everyone but I recently had omicron and it didn’t affect my asthma at the time, although I’ve been left with a bit of a cough a couple of weeks later and so has my daughter.

Please stay safe and if you have any worries about your condition worsening, get in touch with the doctor straight away, you definitely don’t want to mess about with these things.

Get well soon and I hope that your symptoms stay mild. x

I’m so sorry to hear 😔 well in December I had Influenza A (and I had my flu shot) and it was nasty. I needed oxygen, steroids and spent all day in the hospital. After seeing my Doctor (7 days after the day in the hospital) she said she still hearing noises in my breathing so she putted me in Spiriva and Zyrtec (I have allergic rhinitis too) with Relvar and Montelukast (that I was already using). 35 days after (today) I still not totally recovered…but much better. I will get my booster tomorrow. So to tell you that unfortunately you need patience 😔 it really takes a lot of time to feel yourself again. I know it wasn’t Omicron with me (they tested me too) but my asthma is triggered by a virus too and I think you might be in that position when you need lots of rest, drink lots of water and having patience. If you feel you are worst talk to your doctor. I wish you a fast recovery! All the best!
