Good day to you all, Fostair or Luforbec :-(

My medication was changed a few weeks back from fostair to luforbec, my symptoms became more pronounced within days, breathlessness, tight chest. I have contacted my GP and had fostair reinstated yesterday, i thought i would try and find out more about luforbec, there is not a lot of information to find, the only thing i found was that it was tested ( in india) on healthy individuals ?.

The change in my symptoms were marked, more use of luforbec and ventolin, puffed out from menial things that normally would not phase me. I am looking forward to getting back to fostair!

That's ridiculous! You'd expect it to be tested on people in the target group at least.hope u soon improve

yes, incredible I know, how did the MHRA think this was sufficient to allow it, will have my old meds in a day or so, so should see a marked improvement soon, thanks for your wishes

I've found the difference lies in the non active ingredients - fostair uses hydrochloric acid( which is inorganic) & lufrobec uses maleic acid( organic). Also of note BOTH INHALERS USE SAME PROPELLANT - norfluorane 134a

This has happened to a few of us. I hope you recover quickly once back on the proper medication.

I was changed to Luforbec and found it did not agree with me, I went back to see the asthma nurse and was changed back to Fostair,, - it is a cost saving exercise and so called ‘ green initiative’ by the NHS which is proving to be ‘problematic,,,

It's very simple to myself as Luforbec is a generic and Fostair is the original product so they have had time to develop the product, which is best for the patient. whereas a generic is rushed to market in attempt to make the product as cheap as possible to compete. Now if you check the historical posts on the asthma forum you will find a high percentage of people have had issues with Luforbec.

I hope this helps

Thanku for this.im appalled that clinical trials weren't necessary!!! Those that were, were on healthy people#!no mention of how many or details.this is one medication, if offered, I will refuse

I also had issues. It made me cough immediately on the 1st inhale using my spacer therefore unable to take my 5 breath cycle & my peak flow dropped. GP changed my repeat prescription back to Fostair. It also made my throat burn.

I reported my reactions to the yellow card scheme. They really do need to know how this affects some of us. I ended on a course of Prednisolone.

Hi Gugsy, sorry I can't help I don't have ventolin, my treatment is symbicort, which is combined treatment. I can't take ventolin due to palpitations it causes me.

Hi Gugsy, I have made a few replies to your situation, hope you can look them up under Simi55. I don't know how to make a link to them or even if it is possible. Hope you are soon better on Fostair. Good Luck.
