Update: 02/02/21
Hubby and I finally well enough to leave hospital to continue our recovery. It's going to be a long haul as we both have on going issues due to Covid. Thank you for the well wishes. Home at last after 10 days in hospital. Can't fault the care we received throughout.
Update: 29/01/21
Hubby and I are both still in hospital but seem to be over the worst and improving. My lungs are a lot better and I have had my oxygen reduced. Still on regular nebs but not needing as many. PF is gradually improving and getting better reversibility with nebs. All meds orally now and have had one of my cannulas taken out. Managed to walk to to bathroom and back with a frame today but unfortunately had a fall the last time I am a bit sore and gave myself a fright. Because I am on blood thinners and long term steroids I have to have CT and x-ray as a precaution but I am ok. Hubby has had to go onto insulin but his
Sugars are stable. His chest is a bit better ( he has COPD) and like me got Covid pneumonia but his sats are better too and he is improving. Was so happy to see him today as they are moving us into the same room now we are well enough.
UPDATE:
My husband and I are both now in hospital. I have had more IV Dexamethasone, IV and oral antibiotics, on oxygen and have had nebs. Breathing is a bit better, sats improving and heart rate coming down. John on oxygen and has been given Dexamethasone too. They are doing checks to make sure he doesn't have a blood clot. We are both feeling pretty shocking. Sat in Resus at the moment.
Have managed to contract the dreaded Covid. Feeling so bad. Wouldn't wish this on anyone. Tested positive on Tuesday after having a bad headache, runny nose and cough. Whole body hears, joints, muscles and skin and keep spiking temperatures over 38 degrees. Have been really struggling to manage my asthma over the last few days. PF kept dropping to 200 best is 450. Red zone of my plan is 270. This is despite being on 40mg of pred since Monday plus max dose of Fostair, Spiriva, montelukast and loads of Ventolin. Phoned 111 last night and they told me to go to A&E.
Sats were 84 when after I walked in there but improved a bit when I had been sat down a while. I confuse them because I don't wheeze until I am actually starting to feel better. My sats start off looking ok whilst I am quietly retaining CO2 that I can't get rid of then they suddenly drop when I stop compensating for this and crash. I then get bad really quickly and start heading towards respiratory failure. Think they thought I was ok when I first got there. I couldn't speak but they left me in a surgical mask, no O2 and no nebs. Took 3 tries to get my bloods in triage area. They then moved me to CDU. Did my obs again weren't too worried. Then bloods came back, the redid my obs and panicked. They also phoned ITU. Finally got IV paracetamol and Dexamethasone (steroid) and given 3 double dose Salbutamol nebs and ipatotropium. They were really good once they realised I have was having a serious asthma attack. Luckily my breathing and sats improved and I didn't need Oxygen. They would normally have admitted me but I had a better response than usual to the nebs probably because of the Dexamethasone, I normally have hydrocortisone. They were only admitting people who needed oxygen support last night and didn't want to send me to the Covid ward. But if it gets bad again I will have to go back in. Not great again this morning. PF before meds was 250. Getting fed up now.
