Sitting at the dinner table......

As today is Easter, happy Easter to you all....

We are having a small family / friend gathering (6 people) for dinner. The table is set and we await the visitors.

Now I should perhaps be looking forward to this, dinner is being cooked the table looks lovely, but I'm not, all because of my stuiped anxiety. I dread the social side of it, I don't want them to talk to me or ask questions.

I have been a person that makes people laugh and have managed to mostly keep that up in very short spates of 5/10 minutes, not so easy at the table for a while. People expect you to ,and the focus in that respect will be on me. I would prefer to eat dinner and just listen and not say much. So instead of looking forward to something pleasant I am dreading it...sometimes I think the sooner I go totally off the rails the better, then I won't have to act normal.

Sue

Awww sleepless Happy Easter to you. Please try and enjoy the dinner and company keep taking deep breaths saying i can cope with this and its not ruining my day.

Please try not stress yourself you may be surprised how wonderful you feel afterwards. Make sure you sit down and chill out after the dinner and try and make small conversation. If they start to ask questions etc make it a short answer people intend then to go onto something different.

Be thinking of you and praying you have a peaceful day.

Let us know how it goes :) positive thinking

Lol sue,

I envy you on one hand but don't on the other. I would feel the same about people talking to me. I am alone all day and so wish my partner was here and we could have a nice meal together. On the bright side, I've got my cats and come dine with me is on later so I'll crack open a tin of soup and pretend I'm a guest lol xxx I hope your day turns out to be unexpectedly brilliant xxx

Thank you Seyi, I will try my best, it's strange but the more on the slightly eccentric side I become the more blummin interested in me they become haha.

Cookie patch, yes it's strange isn't it, it's a nice but nasty thing hahaha, I used to love having dinner with people. Now I feel nervous of the attention they give me. I love come dine with me and I envy you hahahaah with your soup....

Thank you to you both for your responses they made me smile x x x

Got a feeling I'm gonna come last, having only served tomato soup with day old warburtons and a cream egg for pud, oh well it's the taking part that counts lol :-)

I hope everything goes well xxx

You are so similar to me. I had two meals with the inlaws yesterday and it was a real struggle. It is hard trying to keep up appearances in front of people. You will probably find it goes ok in the end though. Take care, Gray.

Thanks Gray I'm sure it will be ok. Thank you for your message good to know I'm not alone on feeling this way. You could feel a freak otherwise haha xx

hi i know you have probably eaten by now but if that happens to me i put music on in the back ground to drow people out a bit:) i know great host or what.....just sitting there nodding:) x

Thanks Sam,

Yes it's all over now and of course it wasn't as bad as anticipated, mth else things are ALWAYS worse when you imagine them aren't they....what I did was I chatted to them a bit prior to getting to the dinner table and that seemed to make it easier as it didn't make me appear unsociable at the table.....alls well that ends well.... :) xx

Hi Sleepless,

Well done you. I couldn't have managed that at all; not the food or the socialising. I think you've done brilliantly :)
