Hi all, I have a problem with anxiety where I feel every triumph and knock back as a strong emotional outburst.

I spend most of my time flitting between euphoria feeling tragic (crying, angry and anxious). I do have a lot of stress as I am studying and working, but it is my reaction to this stress that is the problem. I am on antidepressants and in therapy. I have been told that I am not bipolar as the cycles are not long, though I am prone to depression and anxiety. When I am triggered, it takes seconds for me to spiral out of control - shortness of breath, heart pounding, uncontrollable crying and obsessive thoughts. If anyone has any advice at all, I would love to hear it.

Anxiety can be as you explain , one minute up , the next down the next angry , does make us feel like we must be crazy , but we are not , we are dealing with feelings that are all over the place , causing these emotions

Is there anyway you can take a bit of the stress away , as you say you are working & studying it is alot , can you cut hours down or something else ?

I no & i suffer with anxiety , i always take more on than I can cope with & I have to take a step back & realise i need to cut something out to help myself

Have you tried breathing excerises, you can "google" them but suggest just them as this helps lots on here

Simple things getting enough rest , sleep , me time , eating well , they are obvious things but under stress we can sometimes forget we need these things to help our minds as they do work over time ;)

Do you think your meds are working or need to have a chat with GP ?

None of this may be of any use & someone might come along later with something better but just suggestions & to let you no someone is listening & does understand how this makes us feel

Love

Hi Sera,

Sorry you are struggling so much.

Being told you are not bipolar is all well and good but you are still finding your mood swings disruptive and distressing and they are interfering with your wellbeing and day to day life. You shouldn't have to put up with that. We all have fluctuating moods, that's as it should be and we are all affected by the events around us (those of us with anxiety, more than most) but you should not be living each day on an out of control rollarcoaster. It's too exhausting!!!

Go back to your GP or talk it through with your counsellor. Be firm - you need more help than you are getting.

Let us know how you're getting on.

Best Wishes,

Thanks guys I really appreciate your emails. I've had a lot of frustrating times with the doctor and it feels like, when I do feel a psychiatrist, it's up to me to report all my symptoms intelligently. It doesn't help that when I am in front of a professional, I feel a lot less anxious so they don't see what happens. It's not that I want to be given a bad diagnosis, but I am beginning to really take in that what happens is, at the moment, out of my control, and I can get help to find things easier. This is the first time I have ever posted about my anxiety, I am really glad I did. Thanks and best of luck with yours xxx

Hi there, i know exactly what u mean. Every triumph and knock back is a series of bad emotions. Ive not been diagnosed yet and am still waiting to see a psychologist and psychiatrist. Go back to your GP and tell him strongly. I know the frustration u feel when explaining it all the time, its like no one understands or cares. They tell me ill get better but its been almost 3yrs now and in exactly the same. Don't stress yourself out, stress isn't good for ur mind atm. Hope u get better my friend
