Hi Nervey. If you have been checked by your GP and told your heart is OK then do not let the 'symptoms' worry you, (not easy). We have all had 'heart attacks' 'cancer of various parts'

'arms and legs aching' (some unknown disease)! Brain tumours (that's a common one), and many, many other symptoms that have no known medical cause other than anxiety. If you have not been to your GP then please go. He/She will reassure you and that in itself is a relief. Very best wishes. jonathan.

Thank you. This makes a lot of sense.

Hi nervey. My main issue with anxiety was heart symptoms. My heart beat went to 130bpm during my worst attacks and I thought I was dying, but within 20 Minutes I was back to normal. I went to the hospital and had an ECG and everything was fine, and I've since been back for further checks and again, everything was fine. I also get irregular heart beats when I panic. Whenever I feel these symptoms I just sit back, take nice relaxed breaths and take my pulse after about a minute and I find it calms down.

Do you have a lot of heart symptoms with your anxiety?

Hi there my symptoms are really similar to yours. I've had anxiety as a child and am nw in my thirties. I'm a sensible woman yet this is the one thing that I never make any sense of. Like you I get bouts of fast heartbeat and irregular pulse. From what I can gather its the body acknowledging that it is anxious and stressed and this in turn produces more anxiety. Then a vicious circle happens. It's so annoying isn't it?

I completely agree nervey. I also question why it happens because I just dont think it's me, I've never been that kind of person. I could be sitting watching tv quite happily and my heart starts picking up pace. I hate it. it usually happens if I've had a lot in my mind.

it really is annoying. I am learning to live with it but I do have days where I get upset about it.

Aw me too. I just want to feel free and relaxed about life. It would be lovely to just " be"

Hi Mandy. Even though off tablets I still get palpitations from time to time. Old 'habits' die hard. A doctor said to me "Only healthy hearts palpitate". What truth there is in that I know not, but, after many years it has done me no harm. I just say, 'Oh well, here you are again, good luck, and get on with what I am doing. What Mandy says about deep breaths etc. is so true. It does die down if you do not add panic to panic. All the very best to you. jonathan.

Mandy, I know exactly what you mean by palpitations I have suffered for over 30 years with panics, anxiety, and agoraphobia, and also cant ever be alone, I get palpitations very often, and the doctor gave me propranalol for it, I also jave been on Valium dor 30 years, and am on Cipralex, but its not helping as I am addicted to it now. I lie down as well when I get those heart beats it aeems to choke me in myn throat, and now to top everything else my husband has altizheimer, and is very bad with it, but I could never ever put him in a home, I love him dearly. I take my blood pressure as well, people tell me to take no notice of it, easier said than done isnt it, I take my pulse to, I have been to a private hospital and had an echo test on the heart, but they say it was the anxiety that was causing it, Its a horrid feeling I know, and hope we can get rid of this one day. Bless you from Lindenlea

HI, when i suffer with bouts of anxiety i get palpitations. I found walking helped, it took my mind off my racing heart and the adrenaline calmed down too. Ive cut right down on caffeine and high sugar foods and i do yoga once a week which i really enjoy because its brilliant for stress. hope this helps.

I know what you're saying. I had a bout of being very fit about 10 years ago ( pre kids) and in turn I gradually felt well. My anxiety slowly went away and so did my palpitations. Since then I am far worse. I did used to have SVT of the heart but I've had a really successful operation. Doctors have told me that I am so focused on my heart area after so many years of thinking about it due to the past SVT that the symptoms now are due to anxiety of the heart and in general. Apparently it can do alsorts when You are an anxious person or stressed

I sometimes get a pain in my chest, its really severe sometimes. I can wake up with it as well and sometimes I think its not related to my anxiety but my doctor assures me that it is.

I have this too. It's feels scary. The know a lot more than we do about anxiety symptoms. I wish they would share this knowledge with patients.
