Hey. I'm new to this website so I just wanted to post a blog so anyone reading my questions, answers or blogs knows a bit of background about me. I'm 16, bisexual, I live in Essex and have been attending Sixth Form for a few weeks. I've suffered from depression and anxiety for pretty much all of my secondary school life and I've been suicidal for the past year and taken several overdoses. I've been on prozac (fluoxetine) in the past and am on lustral (sertraline) at the moment since prozac wasn't working for me. That's pretty much it, if anyone wants to message me any time if they're feeling particularly bad I'll do my best to listen and help if I can.
New Here.: Hey. I'm new to this website so I... - Anxiety Support
New Here.
Hi, JamCop - and welcome. Sorry to hear you suffer from anxiety and depression. Are your family and friends supportive and understanding, and also your GP? Presumably your GP prescribed the medication. I hope Lustral starts to work for you soon. Do you know when your problems started and what happened in your life to provoke them? You are young enough for a talking therapy like CBT to be very effective and helpful, so if your GP is approachable, it might be worth asking if you can be referred for that, or for some counselling. Tell the GP that you want to be able to help yourself get better as well as taking drugs (which have their place but best of all is a combination of medication and talking therapy).
I am an old crone - 59, suffering from anxiety and depression for decades on and off and trying to manage it any which way I can. I do find Mindfulness meditation helpful and there are lots of CDs available which have short comforting meditations on which you can listen to when you are feeling anxious or low. Have a look on Amazon. You can then put them onto a MP3 or Ipod and listen to them on the way to or from school, maybe.
Medication hasn't helped me but I am being referred for intensive therapy called MBT - it's a big commitment but worth a try as nothing much else has helped.
You have the insight to recognise that you have problems and are trying to address them, so that is a very important first step. And congratulations on being in the 6th Form!
yeah I'm having a type of counselling called cognitive behaviour therapy and I don't really think that's working either. And my family are very supportive but my 'friends' hate me and I haven't had a polite conversation with them in months. Hoping the medication kicks in soon, but I'm in a positive mood this morning so that's nice and rare. I'll look into those meditation cd's thanks!

HI, welcome to the site, i find it a god send! i have had anxiety and depression since school, although the last two years it really hit a high note. this site has saved me on a few occations. x
Thanks everyone for the welcomings!
Hi jamcop welcome although this is probably the last place you want to be glad you've seen a dr and your getting some help and councilling CBT it's maybe not what you thought it would be but stick with it its more about redirecting your thoughts and thinking and getting you to help yourself to see anxiety for what it is I didn't get what it was about at first so I got some reading material and spent more time than the councilling sessions reading about it the trouble with anxiety it hangs about leaves you for a bit and you think your over it and by thinking that it starts it off again but there are many things to deal with it with one is to go with it till it passes fighting it sometimes prolongs the bad moments I hope your meds keep you safe from your bad thoughts and you start coming back from the bad place you find yourself in in can be done try to be positive no matter how hard that seems sometimes all the best and we're all here with you to help as well....Mel
