I have been on Lorazepam 0.5 mg for 11 years . Sometimes I think of getting off of it , but then I get anxiety thinking about serious side effects I have read up on.
so my question is : Has anyone taken this medication for a long period of time, and then weeks off of it with side effects or no side effects? Please no judgment or rude comments.
Thanks

I got down to .25mg per day which is the lowest dose you can take. I am also nervous about going off of it completely due to side effects so I am interested to see if anyone else has successfully as well
though I haven’t taken that medication, I had a hard time getting off one med that I took 5 years. Got a huge headache that lasted a whole. My doc tried to wean me off but it should have been slower, though insurance was not flexible. It should be going on a lower dose then at the lowest, going every other day. The process should take about 3 months (though my doc had to do it over a month). Talk to your doc about how to wean off safely.
The med I switched to wasn’t doing its job for me too. My doc sucked at this in so many ways, and I had a lot of trouble at work. I ended up going to the psychiatric facility to detox safely and get on a med that worked. I’m grateful for going there, but I’ve heard bad things that happen at those places too. There is so much stigma around it, though I didn’t feel it while I was there.
Definitely no judgement for anything. Appreciate the question - I take 5.0 mg of Lorazepam daily. I take 2 mg when I wake up, then 1 mg in the afternoon/evening, and then 2 additional mg at night. I feel kinda like I'm nuts now, having read this thread, lol. I used to be on clonazepam and before that it was alprazolam. We've sorta settled on Lorazepam now, and we built me up to this dosage over a span of time, and based on my needs. I haven't come off of this med as of yet, but I know the time required will be great, just like it was with the previously-mentioned benzos, which were taken at lower doses. I can say, and this is solely from personal experience since I'm no doctor, that being on such a (relatively) low dose over such a long time should lend to a greatly decreased chance you're going to experience major side-effects. This is something you should discuss with your doctor, though, without a doubt. Wishing you the very best.
