I am so nervous about my upcoming surgery (hysterectomy) it’s after the holidays which is good because the holidays won’t be spoiled for the kids. I am trying not to dwell on it so much but it’s hard because I’m in so much pain everyday. Two years ago the dr wanted to do this surgery and I went a different route I should’ve known I was gonna end up with this surgery at some point. My anxiety has been through the roof I had to have my Dr up my meds just so I could relax. I joined a group on FB to prepare myself for the surgery but the majority of the stories are horror stories which kind of scares me more. Some stories help but some of them are really wild and crazy. If anyone has had one please send me any suggestions that they did that got them through it I would be grateful. I am taking everything with a grain of salt because I know everyone heals differently I just want to know what to expect. I am coming home the same day which is good (I have young kids at home). I am just trying to get the house prepared and anything like food or drinks ready now so I’m not having to send anyone out to the store late. Thank you in advance.

I don’t know what to say, but best wishes and prayers. As long as you are meeting all the pre op points I think you should be good to go.

Goof you are getting your house ready w food for the family. I wish you well and hope the upcoming surgery w benefit you in ways you have hoped.

Good luck.

I did have one. It was fine. I was in the hospital for 4 days after the surgery, but was walking around for most of that time. There is pain for the first 24 hours or so, but it can be controlled/eliminated with medication. I did not like morphine as it made me dizzy, so was given tramadol which worked like a charm. When I got home I was fine, although I tired easily and took a nap every day and went to bed early. At home I had no pain or discomfort of any kind, although you can't lift anything heavy and have to be aware of the stitches. I took a slow walk every day. People who write their stories on the internet are usually those who, for some reason or other, had a bad experience. The vast majority are fine and do not bother to post details of their surgery on line.

Hello, I had a hysterectomy in 2011 and honestly it was fine. The worst point regarding anxiety is just before while waiting for the surgery but they can give you a sedative to relax you. I had one the night before. After surgery you may feel uncomfortable due to the air they blow into your abdomen so be sure to say you are in pain and they will give you morphine etc. They will want to keep on top of any pain. After surgery take the advice they give you regarding walking about and eating. If you haven’t joined hystersisters do because there is lots of info on that website. Remember to breathe!

My friend had a hysterectomy. She was in a bit of pain at first, but other than that she was ok. The one thing she did do was to take the advice the Doctor gave her. No bending or lifting and no hoovering etc. You will need help around the house so best to get your friends and family pre-warned. I wish you all the best I would be nervous too. x

I commend you for this decision. I’m sure the side effects are nothing compared to the pain you are feeling. My grandma gained weight after, like a pudge belly. I am curious if you know what organs will be left. Like will you have your ovaries, etc. my doc was talking about a hysterectomy for me for a while, but my symptoms ebbed a few months later.

Thank you my ovaries will be left right now the doctor did say once she gets in there and checks my left side out and if she has to take it she will. I am having all the problems and issues on my left side. They are treating me for endometriosis and adenomyosis.

I can hear you are being brave, facing this surgery but wanting your kids to enjoy their Christmas! That is great!!Hope you have some family, friends or neighbors scheduled to help following surgery since you have young kids to care for. You will have a weight limit.

I m wishing you courage and healing.
