So I don’t have experience with lexapro but I do with Prozac. Both are SSRI so work the same way I believe. I was like you and started on a low dose. It was what I needed to convince myself I was safe to take it. I did for a few weeks and then went up to the therapeutic dose. Once I got up to the higher dose it did start working. I won’t lie those first few weeks were not the best. Mainly because my anxiety was making me question and make everything worse. In time when the medicine started working that slowed down immeasurably. It’s been 7 months now and I would say it definitely works.

I actually made a post about my experience a few days ago. It’s a long one but read it and maybe you will find the encouragement you need.

Hi Chicago22, not every medication out there is for everyone. However, I have been

very happy in being on Lexapro after years of being on benzos.

5 mg is definitely a very low dose. My starter dose was 10mg. We can't skip any

side effects by reducing the dose to below minimum. The brain will still react to the

chemicals and possibly make you think this is not for you.

Following your doctor's orders as to what is appropriate for you is the best way

to go. Slow but safely increasing to therapeutic dosage can bring you some positive

results in 4-6 weeks.

It's not only about the dose amount but also about the time of day you take it.

I was taught to take my Lexapro at lunchtime. Food helps it metabolize better and

not just sit in your stomach. I wish you well in following through. :) xx

Hi Chicago22, I was started on 5mg for 2 weeks, and then the dose was upped to 10mg. initial one month was bad with heightened anxiety and restlessness. But after 4-6 weeks I could see the results.. Clear focus, good sleep, decreased anxiety..etc.. So dont worry much just follow your doc prescription ... You will soon see the better of you
