Hi, I have a serious problem with putting things off that need to be done. I tell myself I can only do things when I have pressure or I'm forced to do it. I know this is not normal. Does anybody have any ideas on how I can motivate myself?

try and focus on setting time aside in a plan. If you are telling yourself you need pressure, this is a self fulfilling prophecy. Set aside twice the amount of time you need for a small task. Finish it, enjoy something you really like with the spare time, repeat, increasing the size of the task you have. After a short while break these now larger tasks into smaller parts, and congratulate yourself when completing each element. It’s much more satisfying to complete a small task well, than to be frustrated because you are worrying. 🤗🤗

I find making a list helps me get things done or else it's sort of "out of sight, out of mind". I have the tendancy to procrastinate too, so I completely understand. Drives my husband nuts, lol

Yes, I've tried the list too but sometimes things are put off for months unfortunately.

Have you tried "I'm going to do this RIGHT now"? Sometimes that helps for me instead of telling myself that I'll do it later.

That's a good idea! I will try that right now. Thank you!

You're welcome, I hope it helps! And remember, you don't have to do everything all at once. Just choose one thing every few days.

How about making lists and prioritise each thing Break it down is it a big task or an easy one

Do pacing do something for an hour

then stop and rest for 30 mins

If you do a task then give yourself a little treat

Remember you are not alone loads of people feel like you do don't put too much pressure on yourself and definitely don't think of "normal " what is "normal" anyway

Be kind to yourself

All the very best

I find the right now and reward system helps me. I write a list of what needs doing. Then number them but not in priority or logical order but the things I hate doing most first. When iv finished my list I reward myself with calming afternoon activities that I like. Sewing, knitting, sketching, crochet, watching a film or something else on TV. Listening to music, reading my book or having a nice soak in the bath. I also do chair yoga, relaxation, mindfulness or in the summer sit in or potter in my garden. I also find time management helps. Allow a certain amount of time for each type of activity but make it realistic. Journalling helps too. Be proud of yourself when you have achieved something you didn't want to do. It takes time but you will get there.
