It been a month since I started taking my anxiety medication again

I started taking my medication again after years because I felt horrible for the past few months. My anxiety was out of control. I started taking Lexapro and it has helped significantly. I still have not gone back to my usual routine because I am still afraid something might change. My biggest issue was always the feeling of being dizzy. Its really difficult to control. I can be sitting down or standing feeling fine and then get the sudden feeling that every thing starts to move. I know when this happens it's usually my anxiety. Tonight is a different type of dizziness that I rarely experience. I was getting ready to sleep, and as soon as I turn, I saw the room spin. This type of dizziness is triggered by movement. I have experienced this like five times in the past four years. I practically self diagnosed myself years ago telling myself I had Vertigo. I did some exercises that where supposed to help the first three times I felt it and it actually worked. The last two times it has happened, including today, have been difficult. It doesn't go away anymore with the exercises. It has triggered my anxiety a lot more. My whole body gets tense, especially my head and legs. I thought it may have been because of anxiety, but I am taking my medication now so I assumed I wouldn't feel anything related to anxiety anymore. I am currently in bed all tensed up and afraid of sleeping. I have spoken to my doctor about this feeling before and he practically dismissed me. I am not comfortable speaking to my doctor because he doesn't take me seriously. Last time I asked him if I can see an nose/ear doctor because I have been having problems with my balance. I told him I think it may be related to my ears. He just asked me to get ear drops and that's should help. I don't like having to go see him, I feel like I am bothering him. Still, I feel like I am going to have to see him, again. I am really disappointed that I am feeling this way when I was beginning to feel better. I am currently on a break from work and will soon return and I'm afraid I won't feel good to return. I am hoping this feeling does not last for too, long.

Hi, I know exactly how you feel as this is my most common symptom with anxiety... Mine is always worse when sitting or standing and have many episodes every day.. it makes you wonder if anxiety can cause this or not but it may be worth looking into your C1 at the top of your neck called the Atlas Bone, if this is dislodged just slightly it can cause many things including balance issues and anxiety as it is linked to the Vagus Nerve...

May I ask, has your doctor investigated your symptom of dizziness in the past - including a referral to an ear specialist (known as dizzy doctors)?

When this happened to me years ago they gave me a brain scan mri and investigated the hearing mechanism in my ears. In the end they diagnosed it as Miniere's Disease: there was no doubt that the vertigo was real enough. That's all cleared up now except for some pulsile tinnitus i.e. I can sometimes hear my pulse in my ears.

So although dizziness is a common symptom of high anxiety you have every reason to have it professionally investigated to see if it has an organic cause.

If as I suspect in your case it turns out your vertigo is nervous in origin then accept the diagnosis and accept the symptoms for the time being. Do not subject yourself to extra anxiety over these symptoms as the extra anxiety hormones this can release only serves to keep you in a vicious circle of symptoms causing anxiety causing more symptoms causing more anxiety. . . .

So ask your doctor for a second opinion regarding your dizziness and if it proves not to be organic in origin then you know it's anxiety which can be treated by medications, therapy or a good self-help book.
