3Palpitations after meals?

Ive been getting pounding heart every time i eat breakfasts, lunch or dinner for the past two years, since February 2021.I never use to have this before but its ongoing and doesn't matter what i eat it just starts pounding. I take 40mg propranolol once a day, which help but feel pounding again in the evening when i eat dinner.

The palpitations get worse if i move around such as standing from sitting or move side to side and stretching, this also happens every morning when waking up from sleep.

Been to hospital for test, all came back clear and cardiologist referred me back to gp who told me not to worry.

Not sure what to do now and its effecting my life.

Im 30 years old and do not drink or smoke or take any drugs, also i do not have any other symptoms just pounding heart in the morning whilst waking up and after meals, Palpitation fluctuate with movements.

Does anyone have this or did anyone have this and found a solution?

Any advice? Thanks.

Hi admedkobz89, just by chance, I was wondering if your palps started

after you begin taking Propranolol? Just a thought. :) xx

No, i was given the beta blockers due to the palpitations. Without this medication my heart would go bonkers, specially after breakfast.

ahmedkobz, of course I am not a doctor but went through a period like

that myself many years ago. After eating as well as when in different positions

caused my heart to beat to a different drum. Anxiety was to blame. But it's pretty

hard to get rid of anxiety when you are experiencing irregular heart beats.

Dehydration can also cause irregular beats but the thing to remember is that

if these episodes are taking away your quality of life, get a second opinion.

I could give you many reasons you are feeling this physically but remember if

emotionally you are in a state of fear from it, the cycle continues. My best :) xx

Hi agora. We talked before hope you well. I’ve had anxiety for years. They put it of and not long ago I woke up with some pain and burning in my chest. So to the er I went. Ecg bp all good was fixing to let me leave when my blood work was off. So yes I did have a 70 percent blockage left omc. 2 stints so y’all be very careful don’t always trust a ecg and bp. Not to scare no one but real life. And still fell like I’m not right. It’s never ending. They say everything is good now but. It don’t feel like it.

I'm sorry "real life" hit you in the face but I'm glad you had a doctor in the ER who

spotted the blood work off even when the vitals looked normal.

It's very difficult when we have anxiety along with a physical issue. Be vigilant

of your body after all you and you alone know how you should be feeling.

Take charge. It's your life. :) xx

I use to exercise but i stopped and just go for long slow walks about once a week. I find that I'm able to exercise but can feel my heart pounding. Its like my heart has become so sensitive to everything.

Do you fear eating ? Did you maybe have a chocking episode before the anxiety started?

Naturally your heart will beet faster after food as digestion is a complex thing.

My anxiety started years ago with a feeling that the heart was beating out of chest . These days I don't feel it in the chest but it still gets up to 130+ bpm walking around at work . I had a stress test at hospital which put me at ease a little but never stopped the rapid pulse .

Back to eating I have read that mindfully eating ie being aware of every mouth full slowly eating being aware of taste texture etc helps some people.

Hi. I would look into POTS postural tachycardia syndrome. I have that with exact same symptoms

Hi! I used to have this a lot since my early thirties but now it got much better. If the palpitations get worse with movement it's because of your Vagus Nerve but might be also a mix of other factors (hormonal for example). Your Vagus nerve is impacted from anything from your brain, to your stomach and spine. Eating slowly, exercising, and going to the chiropractor for my posture helped massively in my case. There is also several books that explain the vagus nerve, you should look into them! Hope it gets better, they are a bit scary but you learn how to live with them :) x

You should ask to be switched to slow release capsules and maybe discuss an increase in dosage. Two other things to consider.

1) When you eat, your heart rate will naturally increase as blood is being sent to your digestive system to extract nutrients from your food.

2) Panicking also floods your body with Adrenaline (epinephrine) which makes your heart race.

Is it possible that your heart rate increases due to eating, you become aware that its slightly faster and then panic, this could easily lead to a racing heart.

Have you had an ECG at any point?

Hi, sorry for late reply. I've had all test including echocardiogram, all came back normal. I do not panic or fear eating at any point, it just seems to happen as soon as i eat.
