I am really struggling with anxiety. The worst part is that all the family Doctors, psychiatrist, ER Doctors prescribe me medicine for my anxiety, but when I am face to face with the pills, I just can’t for the life of me take the medicine. Even if in the past I tried these medications with no problems, now I’m just completely against taking them, even when I desperately need to because of how bad my Health anxiety, panic are, I just can’t. It’s like my anxiety controls even that! I’m not sure how to help myself in the state I am in. Anyone has gone through this that can shed some light that would be helpful for me

Hi Rachimina...I was the same as you long ago. Suffering daily with Anxiety/Panic attacks
and yet afraid to take the medication prescribed. You're right in that all the doctors seem
to jump to that prescription pad as a solution. But we somehow need a solution in order to
take the medication. Our fears are so high, so irrational, that even something that may help
us is discarded by us. And so we stay in the cycle of fear.
Ok...so if taking pills is going to bring more anxiety to you than what are you willing to do
to bring down your fears? Are you in Therapy? Many therapists have different approaches
for Anxiety other than medication. There is Biofeedback, Reiki, Acupuncture, Massage,
Mindfulness Meditation & Breathing, Hypnotherapy and the list goes on and on.
We have to go forward with something or we stay stuck and just end up existing and not living.
I will say that taking medication while having therapy can be a good first step in bringing
down that adrenaline. The pill isn't the cure but it's the band-aid that will allow you time
to learn these other modalities that can take you through your healing as well as success.
Try not to get discouraged with yourself. You took a step forward by coming on this forum
site. It is a safe and supportive way to find how others handle their anxiety. Take what works
for you and leave the rest. We are here to help each other because we care xx
Thank you all for responding and sharing your experiences!! They were very helpful in providing some reassurance to my anxious and fearful mind.
You are going to be okay. Believe in that xx
too am like that even if it not for my anxity and panic attacks but i took my 1st pill at the ders office and stayed there 30 min to make sure i didn't have any side effects then at home i would always make sure someone would sit with me to ease my anxity i know how tough it is good luck
You’ve gotten some amazing responses here. I too am and have been in the same boat for years. I can relate to you. I would say this. Allow yourself to trust your Doctors. Don’t be afraid to ask questions. No matter how dumb or unimportant you might think they are. Discuss every fear you have and allow the professionals to help you begin to dismantle them. I have an appointment today to discuss taking medication. The only thing I can do is try. I encourage you to keep your head up and trust the process.
This is exactly me
These are all valid concerns. However, I bring to light some points that will help you in your situation. Some research suggests that one of the major causes of mental disorders is lack of sleep. I can relate to that. My aunt has been suffering from severe anxiety and panic attacks for the last 4 years. The only time she can relax is when she is sleeping. So when I say lack of sleep, I am not kidding. TI have read multiple articles online, and the only suggestion that comes up is to take some vitamins, like vitamin D3 and omega3. The two most important and required vitamins for anxiety and panic attacks. So good luck with your concern. I hope you are able to find someone to help you out. Cheers!
One of the big things that helped me in healing my anxiety was knowledge. When we find out the facts of what something is and what is really going on it can lessen the fear and we can approach it rationally.
What really made a difference for healing my anxiety was finding out that anxiety is a paradox and the more we fight it, resist it or even try to out-think it, it makes it persist and more intense. The key is to learn to surrender and let the panic/anxiety flow through us and remind ourself that it is just adrenalin, it feels intense but it can't harm us. It is also a part of us that was used to protect us but now we no longer need that kind of protections and you have to convince and retrain yourself that you no longer need to be anxious and desensitize yourself. With enough persistence and practice you will desensitize yourself and the anxiety/panic will diminish over time and you will heal.
There are a number of good books and info on anxiety/panic, I found the DARE Anxiety book and program very helpful and constructive about how to heal it as well as their youtube videos. Another good book is "At last a life and beyond" by Paul David, he also has a website and the books and youtube videos of Dr. Claire Weekes.
I also found meds, particularly Klonopin, helped reduce my anxiety but didn't eliminate it, it took learning what it really is, determining why I had it and how to constructively deal with it for that to happen. It takes courage and persistence but it is definitely
Hello Rachimina,
You've already gotten incredible responses here. I have been in the same situation and hesitated about medication. I am so harsh on myself and think that I should battle this anxiety on my own with my own mind. . but think about when you have a headache or even some back pain, you can probably handle the pain on your own, or you can take a pair killer and get some relief, you know that relief doesn’t mean you should get up and go, you still allow your body rest and time to heal, but at least you're not in intense pain. Well, the same thing is for anxiety, you can though it up and feel everything anxiety is giving you, or you can diminish it while still allowing yourself time to heal and rest. It is only a temporary solution, the best medicine for anxiety will always be knowledge.
Learn as many coping skills as needed, learn to regulate your body, learn a new relationship with anxiety, it cannot hurt you, it's only an abnormal adaptation of the brain that can be totally reversed with enough persistence, self knowledge, and practice.
I recommend the YouTube channel "Therapy in a Nutshell"
Very informative and fun to watch.
You got this!!!
