Looking for some help. I’ve been suffering from severe GAD now for over a year and I have undoubtedly fuelled the symptoms. I have chronic and painful muscle tension throughout my body and my head feels like it’s in a vice. I also feel extremely dizzy and have this weird feeling in my head that feels as though I’m swaying. I’m on venlafaxine 150mg and 15 mg mirtzapine at night. I struggle to just survive from day to day. Please can anyone give me some hope that things will get better. I try to distract myself which helps a little sometimes. It’s difficult to ignore the symptoms and function. I feel trapped in my body. Hi

Hi WBC61 I had the same symptoms as you. Suffered from overwhelming Anxiety which kept me in a state of "fight or flight" every moment of the day. With those feelings came the dizzy headed feeling. I totally understand how trapped you feel inside your own body. I can tell you that it is very possible for you to overcome these feelings.

Distraction is good but you also need to work on relaxing those muscles and tightness. That vice feeling in your head comes not only from your stress/fear but also dehydration as well as poor posture. When we live in fear, we tend to jut our head forward in anticipation which causes the lymphatic fluids to not drain properly from the back of the head *causing dizzy headed feeling.

You must first address the issue(s) causing you to feel so stressed out. Therapy is all important in breaking this cycle of fear as well as short time medication. After that, it's about finding other methods/tools in getting your mind/body to calm down. I personally use Meditation/Breathing each and every morning and night. I basically go into a trance like state which allows my body to go into a deep REM sleep. A restorative sleep. We all react differently but never give up. Always think Positively that you can and will win over Anxiety.

Wishing you luck in reaching your goal :) xx

I very much relate to this as I saw a psychiatrist regarding it on Friday. He wants me to try more different anti depressants , it never ends. Your medication doesnt sounds sound as if it is working at all , not helping you in my way . I used to take a benzodiazepine for this but they have stopped prescribing them to me after twenty plus years and so all of the tension in my body has come back …..no meds are stopping it now aaargh

Many thanks for your reply. I’ve only just started venlafaxine so early days. I also take 2 mg diazepam on a needs basis but find this doesn’t really help with the tension but makes me feel a little bit calmer but not much.

I would be so grateful if you could let me know how you get in with Venlaflaxine ….I have a friend who was so very poorly and now he is very well and a different person! The drug has been a miracle for him . It is truly a horrid Illness .

i suffer from this every day !!! A dont even want to leave tbe house anymore because a know I’ll feel it 1000 times more and the dizzyness and lfd balance really scares me when outside. I also take 2mg diazepam when needed and find this calms me right back down. But a day without feeling this way would be lovely im on 100mg sertraline and think ill be ringing the gp for it increased again
