NERVE PAIN 3 WEEKS AFTER ROOT CANAL PROCEDURE ON FRONT TEETH. HAS ANYONE BEEN DIAGNOSED WITH A-TYPICAL ODONTALGIA AFTER A DENTAL PROCEDURE.

Hi everybody,

I am experiencing a dull but constant fizzing, buzzing and electrical pain after a root canal procedure on my incisors. Both incisors have been treated over the last 2 months ( 1 of them on 2 occassions) and I'm sure the pain isn't because of the treatments failure, as there is no discharge, swelling, redness ,inflammation or abscess forming in the gums above, therefore I dont think it likely that a post procedure infection has occurred.

I will investigate a dental diagnosis for my pain at my next appointment, but I am loathed to have any further procedures which will not serve to alleviate the pain. Have any healthlocked users been diagnosed with A TYPICAL ODONTALGIA or been told that there dental pain is 'phantom pain' and due to the brain's scrambled messages to certain nerves that there is problem with a tooth, when there isn't. And if so, what medications has anyone found that has helped with this condition ? Has anyone found amitrpytiline ( the tricylic antidepressant ) effective in managing pain ?

Any support or help would be gratefully accepted. Stay fit and well everybody !

Damian

Have you tried "sensodyne toothpaste"?... Be sure you are not clenching or grinding teeth at night. HAVE DENTIST CHECK THE BITE They are probably still traumatized from the work done...try to not dwell on them too much. Pain will probably subside soon. Beware of Hot and cold foods . Be gentle with flossing and brushing.

Stay positive :)
