Can anyone tell me if propranolol works for morning anxiety ?
I wake up feeling anxious and it lessens throughout the day . I’ve read that it’s good for people who are anxious about public speaking but I thought it would be a good thing for me to take without having to take another anti depressant, I’m already on venlafaxine and mirtazapine . Thank you

Hi. I take Propanalol for a few years now. Before as and when, but with anxiety worsened I take 0.5-1tab a day..I do not take anything else but it does not solve the problem why do I get anxious at the first place. So it is psychological and therapy usually helps. Propanalol reduces the heart rate, calms you in a way and you can carry on with your life, however if your anxiety is high- you might need a bigger dose or something extra.
As for me-it works fast in ( 30min or so). It is a life saver.
Propranolol is a beta-blocker: it blocks adrenaline receptors in the body, and reduces the side effects of stress. But it doesn’t stop the stress directly (you may need other treatment for that), but it can reduce the vicious cycle whereby the side effects make you more anxious. I’ve used a low dose (30mg/day) for 45 years; seemed to work better when I was younger, but worth a try - it’s a relatively safe drug.
