Dry mouth? Anxiety?

Hello everyone. My mouth started getting dry the passed Friday? I believe? And it seems like no matter how much water I drink it won’t go away. Ive been having bad anxiety the last week as well and I wonder if this is something that happens with others regularly. I have health anxiety and I always fear that something is wrong with me which is making everything worse than it already is.

Also I’ve read where certain bottled water can have more sodium content and can make you even thirstier??? Is that true???

Are you taking medications cause my dry mouth comes from my psychiatric medications. You should consult your doctor or treating psychiatrist. They warn you that it's a side effect, but I kinda blew it off till it bothered me. I take medications for depression and severe anxiety (panic attacks). There is a mouth wash (Not Listerine) specifically for dry mouth. It's pretty commonly found in your local supermarkets pharmacies (Biotene mouth wash). It works pretty good for most.

I’m not taking any medications. I just recently started taking more vitamins (different kinds like garlic). But I have had super bad anxiety and I’ve read where dry mouth happens with that.

I've read that too, but I didn't get dry mouth from just anxiety. My medications drew it out. I believe it may be caused by dehydration. I just haven't had it from that. Everyone is different though so as far as curving your anxiety to help with your dry mouth, you may need to turn to mediation. I have found that helpful as part of a larger treatment plan to curve my anxiety (panic attacks).

Oh yes. I’ve found a game that I love playing that distracts me and eases my anxiety. Sometimes a quick run or walking til I’m exhausted stops it! I got put on Zoloft and it caused me heartburn so They switched me to lexapro, well that caused even worse heartburn and made me feel weird so I weened myself off. I’m trying to find other ways.

There are many other anti anxiety exercises to curve your bad anxiety too. You can look up Cognitive Behavior Therapy(CBT) and Dialectic Behavior Therapy (DBT) which I do with psychiatric medications to manage my severe anxiety.

Well, I went and looked and I could be taking too much of the vitamins. Too much can cause dry mouth as well as the garlic I’ve been taking too. I’m going to lay off taking the recommended dosage of twice a day and see how that works. I just started taking it Wednesday I believe. And the dry mouth didn’t start really until this passed Friday/Saturday

Hi there.

Are you taking any medication ?

in reply to Cubs092011

I’m not. I recently started taking garlic and b12 and I’ve drank a lot more protein shakes this weekend (atleast 2 a day along with a high protein bar) and the side effects of both is dry mouth. I’m going to lay off of it for a few days to see

I find chewing gum helps a lot with a dry mouth.

I have dry mouth, there’s No cure, there are several reasons why you have it. Medication, age. As we age our bodies lose moisture, sleep apnea using a cpap machine. There’s a over the counter item that can help it’s called Biotene. It comes in mouthwash formula, spray or cough drops. The mouth wash lasts 4 hours. 🙏😷

Hi when I get bad anxiety attacks I get a dry mouth and increased thirst. I think it's the body's reaction to fight or flight. Take care

When my anxiety is high I get dry mouth too. Although I noticed it's particularly bad right now without the anxiety. I'm in a hot zone for Covid and we're required to wear masks in public at all times. For some reason, I find myself with dry mouth when I wear it. Have come across anything new like that?

I don’t drink anything sugary unless it’s on a rare occasion when I get some coffee! I quit taking my vitamins and got a “better” water and it’s almost gone! It’s still ever so slightly dry but it’s not as dry as it was. Thank you! It makes me feel better knowing there’s other people out there having the same problems as me and it relieves me but at the same time I feel awful because I know how bad it sucks for me. But i was getting paranoid lol
