I went to the grocery store. I was anxious on the way and there, but my sister helped me. She talked to me the whole time and reassured me and helped me. We got home and some guests showed up and I started hyperventilating.. does anybody struggle with this? I’ll be fine and then out of nowhere I feel like I can’t breathe and everything looks weird and I feel scary like if I move I’ll fall over. How can I stop hyperventilating? I don’t notice I’m doing it until the symptoms smack me in the face. Why do I hyperventilate out of nowhere?

That’s how panic attacks happen out of nowhere. Cognitive therapy would help substantially to overcome panic attacks/anxiety.
Hi anon, I'd say you hyperventilate because you are apprehensive.
It makes you unsure of yourself and your surroundings and the breathing
gets erratic. That's why it's a good idea to not wait until you are in that position.
Practice your breathing several times a day so that you train yourself in how to
respond to anything unexpected.....like guests. xx
I also suffer from this as well, I had a horrible panic attack and started to hyperventilate on the train the other day ! I have found that when I feel nervous putting my headphones in and listening to music distracts me, it’s also really helpful and beneficial to learn some breathing exercises to do in public to bring the heart rate down
Do you like to read , cause there is a lot of books /workbooks that have helped me learn coping skills , but I understand how difficult this is
It was great that you went to grocery store with help from your sister. That's something positive. Deep diaphragm slow breathing, sit or lay down. Calm, safe positive, compassionate self talking helps me alot during an episode.
