Has anybody gotten blood drawn and had a blue spot/ bruise show up where you got it drawn from? I’m tripping balls. 🙄

Yes that's happened to me a couple of times. I remember asking the nurse about it once, and she said that blood can leak into the surrounding skin. It looks bruised but that's all, it's harmless. It went away after a few days, like a normal bruise.

Did they ask you to press down on the spot where they'd taken the blood? I've found that if I don't do that hard enough, it tends to leave this kind of mark.

Thank God. They didn’t tell me to press on it. But it’s not getting worse it’s just kindve staying the same and there. It just looks blue and my skin feels a bit lifted in the area compared to the other arm. 😳 Ty for your reply. I’ll try not to freak out. :p

If you didn't put any pressure on at all, I'd say it's pretty likely that you'd be left with something like that. Were you nervous having it done? I've found that if I get worried about needles and so on, I tend to move when they do it, and that makes it worse. I suppose if you move, it will tear very slightly and make a bigger hole.

I've never had any bad effects from a blood sample, these marks look a bit odd but go away by themselves.

Of course I was 🙄 I was freaking out the whole time thinking I would die from the needle so I’m sure I was tense. Lol

My d-dimer results came in elevated so they are sending paperwork over for an ultrasound and now I wait for the call I’m scared I’ll die before they get the ultrasound done.. :(

One step at a time anon. You are wearing yourself out. I've been there

so I know how fear and worry play hard on your mind and body.

Being pregnant you need to conserve your energies for the baby and you.

Please let me know after you have the ultrasound. x

Hi anon...I didn't want to wake you up but I see

you wrote 20 min ago..

This can happen and did happen with me as well when I

had an ultrasound on my leg. I never got a real explanation

as to what happened but was glad I got it tested.

I hope you can sleep better tonight knowing all is well.

However...anxiety is not going to sleep, it's going to conjure

up yet other things to make you worry. Try to believe that

they are nothing but lies. Don't allow your thoughts to get

the best of you. :) xx

Ty. I woke up from a nap to let my doggy potty and decided to check some things. I’m going to try my best.. I am wiped- so back to bed I go.

Hope you have a good night. 🤍

I’ve had a few of these and they turn into massive bruises and I’ve also been told by another nurse that if that happens it’s because the person doing it isn’t doing it right?? So hopefully you’re not feeling too worried it’s fairly common for this to happen

Was yours a bit sore? This is the first it’s happened to me.

Yeah for a few days it was very sore then turned into bruising then it even felt bruised if I caught it made me have a bit of a phobia of needles now if I’m honest

Hi! I’m a phlebotomist and it’s ok it is completely normal. Sometimes the blood leaks and causes a “bruise” it’s not dangerous and it will go away. In the future next time put pressure on the area when they take the needle out and hold for like less than 5 minutes helps prevent bruising!

What do you mean by tipping balls ? I’ve gotten bruising before probably because I’m diabetic.

Every time I've had blood taken for tests I end up with a bruise. It means absolutely nothing, no need to worry at all.

Thankyou for your reply, Jeff. I read your posts quite often they get me through a lot of anxious feelings. It’s good to know I’m not the only one with the bruise spot thing on my arm.
