I just checked my blood pressure which I know I shouldn't have and it was high. Now I'm all worried and stuff. I hate health anxiety. Anyone else have issues with this?

Hi Melrb,

Have you been asked by the doctor to check your blood pressure regularly? If so, the first reading is often on the high side. It’s worth waiting a little while and take it again, even a third time as, once you relax, it should go down. Blood pressure goes up and down throughout the day. If you still think it’s on the high side, I suggest you go back to your doctor to discuss it.

Good luck x

That’s normal high serious don’t worry

Hi.

Sorry for your health anxieties around this. I know it can feel so bad.

I struggle with high blood pressure, and I have done for many years. It is regulated via my gp and controlled satisfactorily. At certain times if the day your blood pressure can be higher and if you are concerned it can be high too, I’m sure you are aware of that. I was asked at one stage to monitor my blood pressure, guess what, it kept going up and up....I got so anxious...I was reassured by the surgery nurse whom I made an appointment with.

I would arrange to have your blood pressure checked at gp surgery, with go or sometimes the nurses if any are available can do this. It would be reassurance for you.

I hope you manage to feel some peace of mind soon about this.

It will be ok 🌷

Melrb, 140/90 is the upper limit for normal in the U.K. and as you were anxious it is probably less than that.

In the U.S. the pharmaceuticals successfully lobbied the medical authorities to bring normal down to 120/70 thereby ensuring millions of new customers even though few non athletes over 25 can sustain that blood pressure.

But to obtain an accurate BP reading you have to sit quietly for 5 minutes, no food or drink for 30 minutes, arm held at heart height and supported. No talking. Take one reading, wait 2 minutes, take another, wait 2 minutes and take a third. Average out the readings by dividing the total by three ( an Omron BP machine does it for you).

That's your correct BP.

So if you live in the U.S. and have high blood pressure (say 130/80) you can cure yourself of high blood pressure by coming and living in the U.K. where 130/80 is considered normal😊
