Hi I'm new to posting. My doctor told me about this site many weeks ago, I'm shy and very reserved. And have only browsed through.

But my anxiety has overwhelmed me recently due to the virus that is spreading so fast in our county.

I'm finding it very difficult to function,

im only having a few hours sleep, having the choking feeling all day in my neck and having extreme panic attacks that I am on my knees nearly blacking out through hyperventilating. This is every day all day.

I am on my own with my dog, :-(

I've phoned the crisis team a few times and they have helped. But a feel like a burden because they are on the front line and have much worse cases then me.

So I've decided to post on here, see if anyone has any tricks up there sleeves

Of how they handle there anxiety and any suggestions of how to switch off from the anxiety and stress.

Thank you kindly

Xxx

Hey there :)

I have been feeling the same way. It’s also very nerve wracking that doctors can’t do much to help us right now. I have been trying to remind myself that I’m not the only one who feels this way. We are all in this together and coming on this site when you’re anxious and talking about how you feel and reading other’s posts helps. Watch a good show, read a good book, watch YouTube videos (ASMR is relaxing), drink some tea, maybe take some Benadryl to help you sleep.

The choking feeling you’re experiencing is most likely anxiety. When you feel like this, lay down and try belly breathing. I’ve been doing this since my chest and throat have been feeling tight.

Take care of yourself :)

Hi

Thank you for your reply.

I keep on thinking that too! That I'm not the only one who's going through this anxiety,

It will definitely help me through this situation, as opening up is a problem shared x

Thanks for your suggestions I will have a look into the YouTube channels x

Don't know what Benadryl is, but the lady at the crisis team told me to take a couple of antihistamines.

But I have health anxiety and won't pop anything haha haha

Unless I'm in agony hahah

Think I'll try the movie, see if I can switch off for a bit x

Constantly crying isnit helping hahha

Benadryl is an antihistamine. I’ve been taking it a lot since I’ve been having trouble sleeping.

Switching off and watching movies and eating some good snacks can definitely help. Gives you a break from your anxious mind :)

Hi you are definitely not alone with this. I have had health anxiety for years now, and have managed it really well with the help of a great councellor. But over the last few days it has reared its ugly head again big time.I have started suffering sleepless nights, palpitations, tearfulness.Of course, the is the worst case scenario for those of us with health anxiety, so I totally understand how you have been feeling. We all find different ways of managing these difficult times. Without doubt my way has been through talking to someone, whether that is a relative, friend or councellor. Also using calming essential oils such as lavender rose or neroli. Drink decaf chamomile tea.

Even writing this post is helping me. So my advice to you is find the best way you can of talking to someone who will listen with a sympathetic ear. It is difficult to communicate with anyone right now I know, but there may be councellors willing to do phone or video consultations? Also get the headspace app on your phone if you can. There is some really helpful stuff on there to calm you and help you sleep.

This site is great for seeking support from those who understand. Keep using it. Avoid watching too much news and social media with virus bulletins all the time. Distract your mind from it by doing something simple that you love. Watch a lighthearted programme on tv.You will get through this. The feelings you have are natural. It is how you manage them that matters most. Big hugs to you.

Hello and welcome. I am glad that you have a dog, but understand how lonely it can be. Have you been able to take your dog for a walk? Or spend some time grooming, petting, and cuddling your dog? Some other things that might help are writing letters to friends and family. Praying for people and spending time reading books or pursuing new hobbies may be helpful too. Hope that helps!
