Ughhh does it ever just come out of the damn blue and hit you !!!!!! Like seriously .... I wasn’t doing anything. I was eating lunch sitting in my mother in laws kitchen when BAM ., out of blue I got sweaty and heart starts to race ... I get fidgeting and can’t calm down ... like out of the blue nowhere !!! I just hate this so so much .... I am not thinking of anything or anxious. I am safe ... I just don’t get why I can’t get this to stop .does anyone ever feel like their heart is racing and have the feeling of it but when you check pulse it’s just in the 80’s maybe low 90’s.... when in reality it feels like it’s well over 110+...

It’s so awful !!!!!! What do you do when this happens ????

in reply toKateS10

i really can't do anything.

Sometimes my heart will pound really late at night and then it feels like needles are going into my spine every time I breathe

Sorry you are dealing with this too :'(

Deep breathing sometimes helps with the heart rate (for me). I am on meds twice a day, but still get breakthrough symptoms, racing heart rate and chest pains being at the top of the list.

I, too, am over feeling this way, ESPECIALLY when it pops up for no discernible reason. Hope you are feeling better!

Yes it’s very common and one of the most distressing symptoms.

Do you see a psychiatrist for your anxiety ? A lot of people will see there Primary Dr. but a psychiatrist is a specialist in anxiety and depression regular Dr’s aren’t.

My psychiatrist put me on atenolol it’s a bata blocker for my fast heart rate that comes and goes. Since I’ve been on it for about 6 years I don’t get that anymore. In addition I’ve been on Xanax for 30 years. The Xanax keeps you calm.

It’s easy to say it can’t hurt you with the symptoms but it makes life hell dealing with these symptoms. It’s worth seeing a psychiatrist. Stay positive you’ll be ok. Oh and do the breathing exercises when you feel that way it helps a lot. Best wishes.

I only see a primary now , I am in middle of getting a psychiatrist. My cardiologist gave me a script for Metoprolol succ ER 25mg because of my heart rate and I think maybe to help with palpitations????? I don’t recall now. He gave it to me a while ago and I still haven’t taken it due to being scared :(

Don’t be afraid of taking it will stop the palpitations and the fast heart rate. Your heart rate spikes or get elicited because of adrenaline. The Bata blocker your doctor stops the adrenaline. It can’t hurt you only help you.

Yes I guess it’s all part of my anxiety ( health anxiety as well )... being nervous to take anything .. afraid of the side effects ..it’s awful . I won’t even take meds when I am sick. I have no problem taking my Xanax though. Guess I have been on it so long anyways . I take .5mg Xanax up to 4 times a day ... but lately I have been feeling I need it a lot sooner ... like if I take it at 6 am , by 10 I feel like I need another one due to my anxious racing heart .

Your needing more most likely because your ruminating over this heart racing issue. If I were you I would break the bata blocker in half and slowly take the full dose so you feel comfortable taking the medication. But I would make your Dr aware of your fear before you take anyone’s recommendation on this site or any site.

Fear of medication is also a big anxiety provoking issue. I can assure you your Dr will not give you a medication that will harm you. If they give you a medication it’s to stop the symptoms, so why not look at it as a positive thing.

Happens to me all the time. My Mom doesn’t understand why I freak out all of the sudden, and she doesn’t get why I never have a reason for such attacks. You’re not alone. This is, sadly, a common things for those who tend to suffer from anxiety and panic attacks.

I get this too! And sometimes, I really have no idea how to cope with it. But usually I have a sort of scented oil (something that smells like mint) to sort of "ground" me. Lying down/not doing anything makes me feel even more nervous, so usually I'll try to distract myself by watching Youtube videos or listening to a podcast as background noise.
