I am new to this site and I found it while looking for a way to help alleviate anxious feelings that I’ve been struggling with.
I have had anxiety for years and finally decided to get some help for it and I was told by a therapist that I have GAD (generalized anxiety disorder).
My doctor prescribed me 10mg Lexapro and I’ve been taking it for almost 3 weeks. I’m not sure that it’s really kicking in yet as I still have some pretty bad anxiety. The other day when I went to work my anxiety was through the roof. I ended up telling my boss I needed some time off to deal with my intense anxiety which he was cool about but now I am worried to return in Monday because of what my co workers might think.
If anyone has any insight or advice you could provide I’d really appreciate it.

hi and welcome to you 3 weeks in is still a bit early for the meds to be having the desired effect another 3-5 weeks you should know for sure if they are working for you.some medications will heighten your anxiety in the beginning as well but that usually passes again if not go back to your gp.you done the right thing telling your boss so don't worry about Monday sure if word got out they would support you through difficult times.
Hi! I hope things get better for you soon. I completely understand what you are going through! And yes it’s completely normal to experience heightened anxiety when starting anxiety meds. I’m on Celexa which is similar to Lexapro and I’m also on week 3! Still experiencing heightened anxiety for sure. Most people say it takes 6 to 8 weeks to see a difference so I wish you luck on your journey and I know things will get better for you soon!
People are crappy and I understand why you would feel the way you do about your co workers thinking something negative. This is your life and you’re trying to work on yourself, so if they can’t help you or at least be kind to you then they don’t matter. I suffer from GAD too, so I know things are always easier said than done. If you need anyone to talk to, I’m just a message away!
