You will know the difference between a cold and flu, im on day 10 of the flu atm confirmed by saliva swab influenza b, keep your fluids up and plenty rest, if symptons getting worse see gp asap, my symptons were getting really bad four days ago so saw gp, i needed antibiotics as had developed chest infection and ear infection, i still feel terrible atm but are now able to breathe, never been so sick like this in a long time, im definitely considering flu shot once im well as few days back i just wanted to die, flu will also give you fever and sweats, i was also dizzy and vomiting.

Does sound like flu, can take awhile to recover, i cant taste or smell atm and right ear been blocked for four days, not much you can do than to let it take its course but do see gp if you get worse, dont stress about dying or reading too much news, i know its scary as i thought i was going to die few days back but my appetite slowly coming back and im not getting any worse, just trust what your bodies telling you, if worried go see gp.

Hi those who die from the flu are either very young children or more likely older people with other medical conditions. Flu in healthy people rarely turns to anything more serious and it won't with you either! Relax. x

Stay hydrated. Go get a swab if you feel you need to.

Courtneyxxxx, I use to feel like that as well in that I wanted to marry a doctor

so I'd be in good hands. That was until I realized that I see the doctor more than

his wife because of my health anxiety at that time. :)

Whatever you have needs to run it's course. Have you seen or called your doctor?

Whatever the course of treatment if anything, takes a least a week to start turning

the corner. Don't allow the news media to feed into your anxiety. Right now your body

needs to concentrate on getting well. It's sad that things happen to people who get sick

but that doesn't mean it will happen to you. Your body needs sleep and rest.

Feel better soon xx

Death isn't as common with the flu when you think about how many hundreds and thousands of people get the flu every year. Its usually small children and the elderly who die from immune systems that are weak. So calm down, get counseling. Everything will be fine.

In the states health plans often have free “Resource Nurses” or “Advice Nurses” you can call to help you decide what to do. My insurance plan also has the option of speaking to a doctor by phone.

The medical clinic I go to also offers similar options. Many large employers (in the states) have “Employee Health Nurses” who are generally Nurse Practitioners one can also speak to. Do you not have some sort of equivalent option to speak to if you are scared?

If your throat is sore my mother always recommended: 1) To gargle with warm water with some salt added to it. 2) Drink plenty of fluids (Jello is considered a fluid). A Respiratory Therapist I met recommended gargling with warm water with a little local honey & lemon juice added to it (for a sore throat).

If you don’t have access to speaking to a triage nurse of some sort for help in deciding what to do, follow your gut instinct & seek professional care (if your gut is telling you to).

I think people who abuse drugs &/or alcohol are more prone to complications in general. Should you fall into this category I recommend getting closer monitoring (& always clue the medical staff in on what is going on for best results).

You could also try a good “Symptom Checker” like on the Mayo Clinic website. It will tell you whether or not to seek medical care for the symptoms you enter for many conditions. Take care.

no worries, dying is not that easy, just visit your doctor take medicine and return to the normal life, i think you just stressed for some reasons, this is why we think about weird things, and also people who die from flu are so young and too old
